XR9 "Arkbird"

There is already XR7 in works and given limited time I can dedicate to Orbiter, this and Starchaser are currently only 2 spaceplanes I'm working on.

Also I'm not a fan of recreating existing designs.

There's no collidable surfaces in orbiter at all. Several attempts have been made to add this feature, but the problem is that this would really have to go in the core to work stable and without abusing features that were never intended for that purpose (usually attachment points). It would also demand adding kinematics to the physics engine. It would be a major undertaking.

You could use the same idea that EVAtether.dll by BrianJ uses. Although, you would need to stop the clipping.

I was thinking about it a bit more. Here's something I was thinking about that could give you a similar feel using the current capabilities. Atlantis Space Shuttle for orbiter 2010 has various views that you can toggle while in the ship with the virtual cockpit. They toggled with ctrl + left arrow, ctrl + right arrow, ctrl + back arrow. If you hit ctrl + alt + arrows you also get animated views. This feature could be used to move the crew through different parts of the ship. These parts can also have their own virtual cockpit interfaces. For example you can have a view animation triggered with a key that takes you out of your seat and to a cabin window or docking observation window of some sort. Or to the exit. You can also have a view animation that takes you to the bathroom, kitchen, or science lab. Another idea is a view animation that takes you to the airlock from your seat where you now can click on a particular airlock interface to open or close the door, you can then hit a key that will animate you inside of the airlock... where you can hear the door close and the decompression beginning.

Can you code it?

This feature could be used to move the crew through different parts of the ship.

This feature has actually been used to implement free movement, like for example in the [ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=3042"]Hius[/ame]. Also, there was some general solution somewhere, I think.

However, you were talking about stuff like free fall in the cockpit. In that case you'll need to run your own physics engine to control the movement of the camera, and controls will get really tricky.

I really apreciate input but at this point XR3's features are set to match XR2 + some VC elements.

Could be a photo shoot for a calendar, you know, like MAC tools or Snap-on or something?
