New Release D3D9Client Development

Someone should do a tutorial on all these texture thingies.

Tutorial sounds like a fantastic idea. Maybe its a bit too early for that, since we don't have an actual real R10 yet.

And this is all a bit new to me, I haven't spent too much time in the past with textures and all that, but the possibilities presented us now with these reflective surfaces....its fantastic. And there were always things that I sort of had in my mind that should be reflective, but this is Orbiter, such things arent in Orbiter, so just enjoy what you got, sort of thing. But now we do have it. We have planet shine, and here I go again.

For all of you out there who still are not using D3D9 on a regular basis, why? Everyone should use D3D9, all the time, every day, because it is that good.

Orulex and Space Elevator are incompatible with D3D9. I like the client, but I think landable terrain & anything that runs on a 2d panel is a worth trading an extra 100 fps for. 10 fps is a reasonable enough speed for me. :)

I know. There are more things out there too that are as it stands incompatible, or are at least partially compatible at the moment with the client.

Antares is functional under D3D9, but it has some bugs that can be pretty nasty. I believe the FOI guys are working on that. CTV, has some issues. The SpaceX Falcon and Dragon package has some nasty bugs, still is functional though.

That addon that shows the orbits is a neat idea I guess....not very useful. And Orulex may be be lovely for those moments when landing on a moon of Jupiter or something, but compared to what D3D9 can offer....I pick D3D9 everytime.

Of course....D3D11 does terrain too.....

Well videnie might not be essential for an experienced orbinaut, but a lot of Orbiter videos use it in order to help viewers visualize the flight.

I use orulex whenever Im out of Earth orbit, particularly on the moon. I find it isnt really essential for ops in LEO or LMO, since atmospheric haze makes it indistinguishable anyways.

I wish I could, but I had issues getting it to run, and Im just not motivated enough to troubleshoot it yet. Orulex also allows you to land on it with collisions UCGO.

One other thought for Jarmonik: what about developing OGLA further? Maybe Artlav would be willing to hand the project over to you...

Sorry if this isn't the right place to ask:

- If I map a polygon with a texture, and set it to be 100% reflective, will it act as a mirror ?
- What about 2 reflective surfaces at an angle to each other ? Are there multiple reflections ?

You guessed it already: Can I do a periscope for a VC ? ;)

For a Soyuz ? Hehe good idea ! I'm not sure about multiple reflexions, though (you need 2, right ?).

For a proper periscope at least 2. But to get a forward facing view while looking down, I could do with just one. Couple it with animations... and you have an interesting flying experience.

Actually I wasn't thinking about Soyus! I was thinking about Mercury...
And there was a rear view mirror on the Lunar Gemini lander proposals...

Which bugs are you refering too?

Sorry, I didn't mean your add-on. This one: [ame="http://orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=5442"]SpaceX launch vehicles and Dragon[/ame]

When launching using the Dragon in this package, the VC is dead, and there is just....bizarre things going on with the solar panels. They are like....rotating outside the capsule and remain as such until the panels are deploy then all seems to be fine in that regard.

So it is still functional as I said. You can still fly the thing to where you want to go. It is not a CTD level thing, but it is hard for me to use because of the visual weirdness.

Yes.

Not really, but there may be a few rare exceptions.

Yes, but not in a way you probably think. Place the environmental camera in a top of the periscope and a paraboloid mirror on a bottom of the periscope. Axies of the mirror and the camera must be aligned and the normals of the mirror must be in a viewing direction. The setup doesn't really make any sence in an optical terms but it should work.

Sorry, there is one problem. VC do not have reflections. Only exterior parts. I'll take a look if if the reflections could be applied to VC as well.

Jarmo, did the log I posted help ?

It's indicating that a file is missing from the installation. It's included in RC1 package.

Done.

The RC1 works fine, but when I install the RC2 .dll everything CTD.

According to the log "D3D9LENoise.dds" is missing. You must install RC1 before installing RC2 or RC3. If the file is missing it will CTD.

hmm, thought I did that. Where is RC1 ?

All is fixed, my bad. I could have sworn I updated to RC1. Sorry about the confusion.

D3D9Client R10

D3D9Client R10 is now online.

I don't have a proper software to edit the HTML based documentation files, so, I leave that for Kuddel. Notepad is too inefficient and other softwares will fill the document with css and other crazy stuff.
