Ares 1-X also damaged the MLP when it launched in 2009, so I guess this is quite normal-ish for shuttle-derived LVsI've seen worse from shuttle launches in terms of deck paint abrasion. The SRB exhaust is pretty abrasive so it acts like a very powerful sandblaster.

Form the pictures, it looks like the gap isn't nearly that big.Redid the solar panels. the cube is 7 x 2 meters.
As you can see the gap needs to be big to make the 7 meters length. My other thought is the arm length may be included?
