Hey everyone,

AMSO 1.17 has been officially released. It can be downloaded (all 68.7 megs!) at http://www.acsoft.ch/AMSO/amso.html

It's a sweet upgrade, and highly recommended to you Apollo and other historical Orbiter fans.

Improvements
------------

- New ATC sounds customization model. Now any number of ATC
can be played at any times (also at any altitude for LM
landing), determined by ATC file names themselve. There
is ATC synchronized on specific events like for example,
LM PDI and landing and ATC synchronized on the GET. ATC
synchronized on GET can be disabled with "Ctrl-K".

- New pre-launch sound capability: now it is possible to
play a pre-countdown sound, starting exactly at minus 5mn
and in this case, the last 10 seconds countdown and liftoff
will be automatically triggered.

- First sample soundpack extension for Apollo 11, featuring
the new pre-launch sound capability, complete ATC for LM PDI
and LM ascent Moon orbit insertion and many other new ATC.

- Added a camera shaker on Apollo and LM vessels. Different
vibration ratios in function of the configuration. Staging
simulation, active during all main engine thrust and during
atmospheric entry.

- Added metallic particles ejection effect during all staging,
including a special one during the LM ascent liftoff.

- Revised Lunar Rover, with fully animated wheels (rotation &
direction), leaving dust trail when rolling, with camera
shaker function in virtual view.

Corrections
-----------

- Removed the bug of the space EVA astronaut giving back
helmet instead of the film cassette.

- Removed the bug of the space EVA astronaut without helmet
aboard the Lunar Rover.

- Now the Master Alarm siren in LM is stopped when the
malfunction is aknowledged.

- Now CM capsule is empty when astronauts are inside the
pneumatic boat.

- CM will now survive to most critical LOS abort at about
GET 000:01:12.

- Escape tower has now all exhausts with the custom texture.

- Launch scenarios start now 5 minutes 30 seconds before the
liftoff time.

- Correction of LM RCS ROT "pitch down" flams direction.

- Correction of LM ascent stage RCS flams positions.

- Removal of several other bugs not signaled by user's but
detected during the intensive test sessions made with
Matteo, alias the "Bloodhound".

Documentation
-------------

- New user manual including picture illustrations and a table
of content. All textes revised by a native English speaking
person.

- Some addition for the new features.

Nice! I should have waited till now to film Apollo 11. I like the idea of camera shake effects, but is there a way to disable it? Most of the time I would prefer doing the camera shake effects in the editor when making a movie, but for just game play purposes I think this is a fantastic addition! :)

I don't know if there is a way to disable the camera shake feature, but I'll ask ACSoft this in my next correspondence with him.

I did a search on the 'revised' user manual and came up dry on this one. The revised manual (and LazyD doc) are my humble contributions this time around.

Nice, well thanks for the info. It's not a burning down issue, just thinking out loud. :)

PS: I moved this thread to the 'Addon' forum.

WOW
I just ran a quick test of the Apollo 11 scenario.
You can almost feel the vibration at launch !
The new audio soundpacks are frakking AWSOME too.
Your work just keeps getting better and better.
Definately a MUST-HAVE ADD ON for any Orbinaught.

I have used AMSO (all versions) from the very beginning without any trouble - Now this new version suddenly causes crash to desktop?

However when I replace the AMSO\Sol in the scenarios file with Sol_1962 - all works fine ?

Ive Noticed

On your workaround, this sounds like a good fix for your issue and I will make a note of it. What other add-ons do you have installed? What other major add-ons do you have installed? (i.e. NASSP, CVEL, Vinka's, etc).
I’ve noticed that also you cannot use the local_clouds add-on or the sonic boom add-on with the AMSO. Perhaps you’re trying to run Vinka's spacecraft3 on the same install. I had some problems and found that my resolution was to have 1 AMSO Orbiter I run, 1 NASSP Orbiter I run that also has Vinka's Spacecraft3 and CVEL craft installed with the earth_1962 and 1 Orbiter default for testing and research with a lot of add-ons. The reason is because of your CTD you describe. I’m not sure if I got the same CTD, but I did notice that the minute I separated these major add-ons, is the minute I starting finding which ones work together and which ones don’t.

I suggest a vanilla install of Orbiter 2006 P1 then install the Orbiter Sound 3.5, then the AMSO 1.17 and its sound update. Then make a zip of that install and then install your MFDs, then make a zip of that, then start putting your other major add-ons 1 at a time and if one of them causes a CTD, then you know which one wont work with AMSO. If it breaks your Orbiter with AMSO and your MFDs, you have that zipped up and can fully recover your last best install. Then if you really want to play the major add-on that broke your good install, you can install that one in on a vanilla version of Orbiter 2006 P1 too. I guarantee it will work.

Also, I’m no expert but shouldn’t your workaround for AMSO be posted in the Add-on Support & Bugs area?

I don’t know. These new forums are a lot easier to find stuff but the topics are kind of hard to sift through when you get in the sub-areas. But hey who wouldn’t sift you can learn a lot just sifting.

To the poster of this thread:

Outstanding!!! I was nabbed into Orbiter because of the AMSO add-on. I would have still most likely still played Orbiter, but it was AMSO that made me an Orbiter Fanatic.
One question, do you think anyone over at ArcSoft or the creator of AMSO will begin to make any of the switches usable? I have been using NASSP for their implementation of their buttons in their virtual cockpit and their usage of the AGC for doing all the navigation. Another thing I was hoping to see in maybe the next update would be a non-universal or circular docking collar. I would very much like to have to dock only if the docking collars are lined up the way it was back then.
As long as I’m dreaming I would also like to see something that makes the High Gain antenna needing to be pointed at earth to get any radio comms and when going behind the moon it would be cool if transmitions were to also be halted just as they would be if you were to enter the atmosphere coming back to earth.

I know I know, the latest version just came out, but these are suggestions that I for one would like to see in the new version of AMSO 1.18. On the same note, I would still like to thank the AMSO guys at ArcSoft immencly who have continued to make the Apollo missions easily accessible and a huge learning experience.

Thanks ArcSoft!!!!!!

If you're also using NASSP on the same install, disable meshland on the modules. Other than that, I don't know what else would cause it. It would be best to disable all modules. If that doesn't work, work on a fresh Orbiter install, which you should do anyway nontheless.

No, I only installed the AMSO_117.zip file, I didn't change any parameter, the lo-res in the picture is when I reduced the bmp size, the only bug I have is the horizontal position of the vessel.

I disabled the meshland, and Works Fine !

Thanks
