Apparently, the pilpt reported a malfunction and requested to land. Flightradar had it descending at 3300 ft/min before the crash.

Hopefully, this one won't have completely wiped out a single choir, delegation, school class, etc. That seems to be a characteristic of Russian air disasters that make them extra sad.

That's odd - there are no mail helicopters around here.

Seems to be some obscure internet witness. Even the existence of helicopter wreckage had already been rejected.

Still, the plane exploded mid-air. Which is dire.

Officials are now saying that the plane exploded upon impact. There's also a footage from a surveillance camera, but it doesn't show much more than a distant fireball on the ground. Still, that debris field is too large. I wonder if the heli theory is completely false. Perhaps some government or army aircaft screwed up and didn't use its transponder, and they want to sweep it under the rug because elections are coming. I know, a bit paranoid, but still...

The footage in question:

I've also seen reports that the FDR have been recovered.

Strange - one perspective looks like it was in fire before crashing, the other shows a huge fireball out of nothing.

I wonder if they were in white-out conditions and just couldn't see that they were descending?

Not switching on pitot heat is a pretty fast way to ice those tubes up. Disastrous mistake.

Well .. that and what looks like a CFIT as well. RIP all.
