Well, there am I. And n122vu creates Babylon 5 spacecraft add-ons.

Count me in. Maybe not hardcore fan but I like this series very much.

Claim to fame - I met Jason Carter and Delen. Both awesome people, very friendly and a good laugh. I absolutely love Babylon 5. The change in G'Kar from the bad guy to someone we come to respect was just awesome.

I'm not a huge huge fan of it. But there's one thing Babylon 5 had. Is that it's got a great story writing for a sci-fi series. It's like if you missed one episode, you'd have to go back and watch that episode to know what is going on on the next. Not many series shows were this way.

It was also a pioneer on how they used special effects. One of the few that used the Commodore Amiga and their Video Toaster for the 3D animations with Lightwave 3D software.

Or it could mean that I bought them despite being too broke to spend any money on stuff like that

nah, back then money really wasn't the problem. Fact is, the show was a pain to watch on german TV, and after the first 3 seasons there was a break of half a year or so (I thought the show was over, what with Sheridan blowing himself and the shadow city to pieces), and I missed the continuation. But since I really wanted to know what will happen next, I had to buy the DVDs.
No other show ever gave me the feeling that I'm really missing out on something important if I didn't see every single episode, so no other show ever compelled me to buy it.

The fifth season was kind of superfluous, though.

That might have been what stemmed it's demise. Despite the great story writing they previously had. Or that they just didn't have the same story writers they originally had.

Either way, it definitely was one of the few great story telling sci-fi shows.

season 5 was a victim of studio management. Basically there never was going to be a season 5 so JMS decided to end the shadow war in season 4 and wrap up a few other things. If he had had things his way it would have extended into season 5.

When the show was renewed for season 5 some cast members, expecting the series to be cancelled, had made other plans and JMS had to come up with a story for season 5 which is why it starts slow and builds up.

Remember that out of all the episdoes over 90% were written by one man. A feat that has never been seen before or since.

And despite all that, the show didn't get much attraction. It's quite an achievement indeed. Sad he didn't get any award for such a mountainous feat.

The show pretty much got only a niche crowd among sci-fi fans.

I didn't see much of it, but from what I can tell the later seasons were much more interesting. I found the first episode unbearably corny.

And that's coming from a guy who likes the Redwall series:lol:

But I saw the movie Babylon 5: In the Beginning. Now that was awesome:speakcool:

Well, the whole first season is a bit cheesy at times, and certainly somewhat slow, but there's definitaley some very important stuff for the later story going on already.

And the pilot... oh well, the pilot was veeeeery low budget.

I always wished they continued with the Telepath War. . . as long as Bester finally gets it.

Star Trek TNG was that way. It improved much over time:)

ohhh, why would you want to see Checkov dead?

Sure thing. Back then, when a pilot still was one of the major evaluation tools how much interest a series would draw, it had to be low budget by nature.

Since this is onto the second page I'll take that as a yes. ; ) Cool.

The first season wasn't the best, but fortunately events forced a bit of a change in direction for the story before season 2 was made, which ended up improving things a fair bit.

My memory is a little hazy, but I remember earlier on finding the constant G'Kar/Molari squabbling every other week to be quite annoying. I didn't think there was any rhyme or reason to it . . .

until I heard the four words that changed everything:

"What do you want?"

but I remember earlier on finding the constant G'Kar/Molari squabbling every other week to be quite annoying.

Interesting. I found them most amusing.

Yeah, but you took a while to understand, that this is not just an interlude of an old married couple.
