That is a problem.

But in true NASA form I'm sure this could be solved........with DUCT TAPE!

Since we're squeezing something into a space it shouldn't fit into, it's not time for duck tape, it's time for WD-40;)

On a serious note, I think a wider fairing would allow an Altair to fit, and it should only take a new mesh and a new config. Also, I'm doubtful you'd be able to send the Altair moonwards with the ICPS, since IIRC SLS block 1 with the ICPS can do something like ~25 tons. Altair, again IIRC, masses quite a bit above that.

So take the 105 block1 and make the cargo fairing below Orion larger enough for the Altair?

Here is the 130 ton SLS with the Altair lander on board.

This zip has the 70 ton crew version also. So it will override those files if you have the 70. The Altair lander you will need to get from here:

What are the requirements for that things?

, SpaceEagle

Well you need Velcro rockets. The Orion . I am using this one.

On the Orion and Altair I thing something like this.

To LAunch. Switch to the Core and increase thrust. Then Switch to Tower. press Space to open the Window. Press with the mouse the LAUNCH button. The arms will swing away and the rocket will be dettached.

Well that looks strange. Not that I'm complaining. But wouldn't it be less aerodynamically stressful if you just went with one large fairing.

Like DIRECT.

This is my design for a Mars Stack with Orion MPCV. This design is based of of the Constellation NTR booster, the Neeseys module at Pappy's hangar, and the ARV. The entire thing would require 4 SLS Launches: One for the Crew in the Orion, one for the NTR, one for the MOHV module, and one for the MTV (LTV).
Any suggestions?

Steps to Mars:
1) Assemble
2) Crew Launch
3) Leave LEO
4) Detach NTR
5) Correction Burn 1 with Solar Electric Propulsion
6) Correction Burn 2 with SEP
7) Orbit Insertion with SEP
8) Rendezvous with NTR 2
9) Leave Mars
10) Detach NTR 2
11) Orion Undock
12) MOHV SEP Earth Orbit Insertion

It is designed to use the NTR for planetary transfers, but uses SEP for correction burns, orbit insertion, and visiting other objects in mars orbit, such as Phobos, and Deimos. This was my idea. Does anyone think otherwise?

Which SLS versions? I could find those other modules. So no lander?

For the whole vehicle (MOHV), the SLS Block II cargo, also for the NTR. Block I crew for Orion, if not a smaller version of it. There IS a landrer, the LTV from the Pheonix ESA mission to Mars, and that would be launched by Block IA Cargo and remotely docked to the MOHV. This was the setup that didn't work before for me. Neeseys is smaller than the NTR, so it looks ugly, but the concept itself seems like it would work.

I can't find the Neeseys module, but it is practically the same as Eranda, so I included it.

OK. I can set 4 different scenarios. I will see where I can put that lander. So block II cargo for the Eranda Module?

Oh. I didn't actually think you would do that! It was just an idea on how NASA should make it. I guess you could try it; might be interesting! I would have used Neeseys, but I can't find it. The problem is that the NTR and the Eranda are different sizes, which it would be more preferable if it was the same. It was just an idea.

Okay. So, the general idea is having the NTR, then the SEP module, then the Habitat. The idea came from Neeseys looking like it has two parts. Just an idea, but you can try it. I will try to post that orbiter log sometime, but it might be late.

Also because NASA wants to use SEP so much, so I found out how they could actually use it.

New photo showing the orange core stage:

It does appear now that there will be no all white SLS's launching past the tests.

Well in my next trial I have a orange texture for those who want to.

So I will make a scenario with the Phoenix lander. Not sure which SLS would be best.

Try this scn:

I made a cfg and mesh for the Altair and Orion. But I can't get the Orion and Altair to be attached.

I would suggest SLS Cargo block IA Cargo.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Launch_System#mediaviewer/File:SLS_configurations.png

I thought that by launching this into LEO, it would be able to remotely rendezvous with the MOHV, the same way Progress does. Then, after the entire thing is assembled, the Block I Crew would launch the Orion to meet up with the MOHV, and then they are off to mars. Did you get a chance to look at the NTR and the comparison with Eranda?
