A Japanese military Apache helicopter has crashed in a residential area in Saga, southern Japan, setting at least one house on fire, NHK broadcaster reported Monday.

“A Self-Defence Force helicopter crash-landed on a residential area. A house has caught fire,” local government official Katsuhide Tanaka told AFP news agency.

Reuters news agency reported the scene of the crash was several hundred metres from the school. Its head teacher said no pupils had been injured.

The reason for the crash, as well as possible casualties, haven’t been reported yet.

Not much known yet, but a helicopter making an uncontrolled landing on a house isn't good.

Crashing helicopters has been causing a huge amount of tension in Japan lately, especially Okinawa. This will not help.

The US forces are dangerously overstretched in East Asia. The main financial focus is on Afghanistan and the Fertile Crescent, which leaves East Asia vastly under financed even though from a long-term geopolitical point of view it is definitely by far the most important region due to the expanding China coupled with the South China sea issue, and of course the North Korean issue which requires constant and massive presence in both South Korea and Japan.

First of all, this is not the Basement.

Second, the story reports that this was a Japanese SDF helicopter, which happens to be US-made, not a US helicopter.
