LIFTOFF.

The first vehicle of the CTV serie blasted off aboard an Ariane 5 from Kourou this morning (local time).

CTV-01 is unmanned.
It is the 1st of 2 unmanned flight that will test deeply all the systems.

Mission duration is 2 days, and will end with reentry and recovery of the capsule.

CTV-03 will carry 4 astronauts in orbit.
Manned science flights will be CTV-03, 04 and 05, and will end with CTV-06, the first operational flight to Celestia Space Station, scheduled for 08 September 2011.

The orbit of CTV-01 is now 50 km higher than CSS-STS27 complex and is on a different plane so that any danger is avoided.

After 2 days of successfull systems checks, the unmanned reentry capsule of CTV-01 reentered Earth atmosphere and splashed down in the Atlantic ocean, not far from Spanish coastline.
The path to the first manned flight is now paved.
