Hi 4throck

Several days ago Rapidshare changed the default folder permissions from public to private. So you should make them public specifically.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. I'll look into it again.
As you can imagine, when I click on those links, the browser auto logins and I can download....
That's what happened yesterday.

Today and on another PC i can login into my account but even so I can't download the files!
Also, my "orbiter" folder is empty.

So when I'm back to my Orbiter PC I'll upload the another file host that is more reliable. As simple as that!
Sorry for the inconvenience!

Ripley, for me they don't work. Unless you have to login or something...

But I ask you not to host those files on other forums!

If you must upload them... do it to ge.tt .
Let's keep things consistent and all in the same place.
All links on this thread only, hosting only in low profile places, limited distribution.

These are development versions to use at your own risk and if you know what you are doing. The best way to explain that is by forcing people to browse this thread  !

If I wanted general distribution, the bases would be on OH.
So please respect my wishes, otherwise you will all be grounded and I'll provide no further preview/partial versions.

Dropbox has a bandwidth limit.

If many of us will download your bases from there (and we will) your account could be blocked or something.
Found at the source:
https://www.dropbox.com/help/45/en

Limit is 20Gb/day for free accounts.

Sorry, my bad. Should have asked beforehand.

No, thanks. Lesson learned.
Without wanting to be (or sound) polemic, if you want to reupload them somewhere to make them available, do it yourself. They're your files.

Working on Baikonur:

Because the area is huge, I'm only able to use level 3 textures. But I like the overall feel.

I found little information about Jingyu other than the Astronautix page. So I placed 2 pads and 2 small hangars at the likely places.

Another tricky base will be Kapoutin Yar. Huge area with at least 3 runways, last time I looked!

Jiuquan is almost ready.

Yes, I really want to finish this, but even with minimal details, as it is, realism needs some research. But it's moving along steadily.

I haven't touched Olympus or Brighton Beach yet, but I'd also like to have some real terrain around those bases....

Here's Olympus on Google Mars:
http://www.google.com/mars/#lat=12.74&lon=-135.43&zoom=12&map=visible

Brighton is more interesting:
http://www.google.com/moon/#lat=41.273678&lon=-33.423156&zoom=9&apollo=

I'll see what I can do.

After some forcing, I finished all the remaining bases in Asia.
Now it's only a matter of fixing pad elevations and texturing.

Here's Sriharikota:

And here's Taiyuan:

That reminds me, I have surface (accurate) tiles/meshes for the area surrounding the Olympus base that I generated for my now defunct "Base improvement project"

I'll see if I can find them when I get home.

Couldn't help to try Brighton with real surface tiles. It looks beautiful.
But I must see if these images from Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera (LROC) can be distributed or not (I guess so but didn't check).

Tiles for Olympus would be great of course :)

Labour of love me thinks

Did you think it would eat up all these hours when you started!!!

Still it will be one of the first add-ons a new Orbiter will get, if its not, in fact, added to the initial download.

"Good on Ya mate!"

Ok back on my home computer.

picture.php

attached zip contains the tiles I generated. They're based on an MRO image of the Olympus Base's lat/long, which I cross referenced against Google Mars to get the alignment.

The orginal(base) image was downloaded from NASA so it should be go for redistribution.

In fact I thought it would take longer! Professionally I work with maps, virtual tours and low poly building 3d models.
So I know that georeferencing satellite images and processing them to match colors takes time.
It's not something you do over a weekend!

Looks good. Yes, I think it is OK to redistribute giving proper credit. The same goes for the ISS earth photos I used.
