Dragon V2  (also Crew Dragon, Dragon V2, or formerly DragonRider)  which will be a human-rated vehicle. It includes a set of four side-mounted thruster pods with two SuperDraco engines each, which can serve as a launch escape system . Also, it has much larger windows, new flight computers and avionics, and redesigned solar arrays.

This will not be the last addons of this vehicle to appear in orbiter simulator, but it is the first one, later they will appear more complete, to go enjoying their flights.

Work in Orbiter2010 and Orbiter2016.

Thanks for the Dragon 2 addon. I work for Space X and there is the second Dragon 2 out side my window.

I saw an addon you did with a patch, do you make patches ?

well having been an astro-nut for sixty years it is fun to touch the space rated hardware and be a small part of keeping the dream alive. I have been privileged to have guys like brianj,4th rock and gattis to keep my dreams alive by using orbiter as I am a fan of unflown missions.

They are as we speak working on new shuttles and hopefully some new payloads to fly.
Thats a great start to the new Dragon V2. You should work with brianj but really bring this to life with his Falcon 9's and maybe a VC. gattis did a super one for his Orion " the Eagle"

I added this into 2016 and the orbit scn seem fine you might add the clearance lights and a strobe to enhance this addon

A very good model, many details!

May I suggest to add an attachment point to the bottom of the trunk, so it can be put on top of a launcher, as shown in the screenshot?

Code:
[CHILD_ATTACH_0]
POS=(0,0,-6)
DIR=(0,0,-1)
ROT=(0,1,0)
LOOSE=0
ID="AFT"

On the texture of the trunk: I think, one half will be covered with solar cells and pointed to the sun. The other half will probably be simply painted white.

@francisdrake, cool screenshot! Looks almost like artistic painting.

Thanks! All the credits go to the original artists:
Perseus for the cool new DragonV2, BrianJ for the reliable FalconHeavy, Jarmonik and the team of the fantastic D3D9Client, and to Martin for giving us Orbiter and making this all possible!

I think the difference is the version of the launcher.

I used the "FalconHeavy\f9h_drg" (Dragon) version. It has a skirt (interstage) on top to connect the Dragon to the 2nd stage, which seems to be 1.5 m long.
I guess you are using the regular version "FalconHeavy/f9h" with the NoFairing option.
This is fine if you can provide a scenario file with the correct f9h version, so the attachment point fits to the launcher.

What's the matter with orbithanger.com ?
I'm getting: "NOTICE: This domain name expired on 2/18/2018 and is pending renewal or deletion."
Anyone else?

You misspelt the URL. It is www.orbithangar.com. You spelt it it with an "E" and not an "A".

Edit:
Even with the correct spelling, something is wrong. All I get is a blank page.

The Dragon2x is fun to fly!

I made two launch scenarios:
- Dragon2x on Falcon9 to ISS
- Dragon2x on FalconHeavy to the Moon

If you want to try, copy them to the "Dragon2x" scenario folder.

Attention:
I have the "Spacecraft3.dll" embedded in an overall "Spacecraft" folder
(using VinkaSpacecraft4Pack).

If you encounter a CDT, look in scenario file for the line:
Dragonv2x:Spacecraft\Spacecraft3
_and replace it with
Dragonv2x:Spacecraft3

Attachments

Sure, feel free to use the scenarios. But test them first, if they meet your requirements.
Below is a picture of a slingshot behind the Moon made with the FalconHeavy scenario.

This addon does not work for me in Orbiter 2016 - I've been trying, without success, since the initial release. The original scenarios that came bundled with the unit result in a CTD; the new scenarios (in the 'DragonV2Launch2016' directory) give me launch vehicles without capsules on top (or invisible capsules on top).

For the scenarios that result in CTD, the Orbiter log reports:

I have all of the dependencies listed in the DragonV2x.txt file. And, many other addons are working fine in Orbiter 2016 without issue.

Any ideas/advice/suggestions appreciated. I'd like to have something new to fly in Orbiter 2016.

Peace,

cs

Missing meshes: Can you check, if your Spacecraft3 folder is in the location described in the scenario file? And if the Dragon...ini points to the correct Mesh folder?

Thanks for your speedy response. My Spacecraft3.cfg lives here:

Orbiter 2016 \ Config \ spacecraft \ Spacecraft3.cfg

The Dragon...ini says this:

MeshName ="dragonv2x\dragonv2x"

And my dragonv2x.msh lives here:

Orbiter 2016 \ Meshes \ Dragonv2x \ dragonv2x

At least the new scenarios (DragonV2Launch2016) will come up. The ones built originally into the addon cause Orbiter to crash.

Hi,
@francisdrake/perseus - if you do another update, you might want to include the "CONTEXT SpaceX" line in the Environment section of the "Falcon9 to ISS" scenario.

@CurlSnout - have you tried using the default graphics, rather than the D3D9GraphicsClient? Any better?

For the D3D9GraphicsClient, I think you need to do the "Create Symbolic Links" thing(on the Video tab?) - I'm not sure, maybe someone else can clarify my dodgy memory.

Cheers,
Brian
