By Sputnik and Burncycle. The USAF's hypersonic glider, circa 1965. Aero properties, moving controls, CVEL payload deployment. Updated v1.3 with new scenarios, payloads, and now including MOOSE re-entry pack for safe ejection at any time. CVEL Titans v1.3 strongly recommended.  Project X-15/Edwards High Range needed to run scenarios with drops from B-52's.

Legacy Add-on Reviews from Orbit Hangar Mods

Review by andy44
Pros: booster options, payloads, pilot w/ejection seat
Cons: perhaps a virtual cockpit someday
Review:
I have always preferred add-ons that are plausible and do not violate physics, so I can explore space without cheating. I'm also a big history fan. This addon fulfils both, big time. An almost-was Cold War spaceship, complete with Cold War payloads and missions, multiple CVEL booster options, and an ejection seat for when you screw up your re-entry! It's as realistic as the Space Shuttle but in many ways more fun to fly. 5 stars all the way.

I'm having problems. At the time the X-20 would separate I get a CTD

Oh, for crying out loud.

It'll never work if I forget to include all the meshes in the distribution! You're fine; it can't be working for anyone else either.

And...v1.33 released! Try it now; you'll find it works much better.

And thanks!

And, when adding a mesh, always remember to include its textures. I knew I was forgetting something, but I was on my way out the door that morning, and....

Well. v1.34 uploaded, with a non-functional (but pretty) VC, AND its textures, added. The VC is courtesy 80mileshigh; the absent-mindedness is entirely on me.

Dumb question but, how does one initiate the drop from the B-52 (in the X-15 and in the X-20)? I don't see any documentation for this.

go to the B-52, press A. A little white box should then appear on the lower left of your screen. Then press shift+0 ((numpad) zero) to release the X-20. If shift+0 doesn't work directly, turn off num lock.

The VC is courtesy 80mileshigh.

I'd forgotten about this! This was back before I properly understood mapping and so there is a proliferation of textures where the should only be one. I can tidy this and make it look much nicer but it will have to wait. At some point down the track ...

Great to see the X-20 in Orbiter 2010 anyway!

I think I have an issue here. Is the CRT in the VC supposed to look like this?

Yes, it is.

The VC isn't really released, which is why it's not in the feature list; nothing works yet.

My intention had been to animate the 3D ball in pitch, roll, and yaw, but it turns out that the animation system doesn't work that way and I'll probably have to borrow Martin's latest Shuttle-A code instead (which uses an entirely different approach, that I only partially understand).
Meanwhile, the energy management display was to be converted into a single MFD. That part's not done yet either, though I expect it to be much easier.

great job

As a boy on the early sixtys I read a book called " Major Matt Moore Flys the Dyna-Soar" It was really neat to get to fly this add on and see what it would have looked like. The detail is awsome and the missions were fun. I hope you keep doing these forgotten missions.

I was just re-entering from orbit in a Dyna-soar launched by an INT-13 from Velcro Saturns. On approach to Vandenberg I heard an almighty crash and seemed to lose yaw control. Reading the docs I think the noise was the heatshield being jettisoned, what effect on flight characteristics should I expect that to have? After this event I had very little yaw control (my velocity vector indicator was skating around the place, no flat spin though) and I'm pretty sure I didn't deploy the airbrake or anything like that.

An easy explanation, or a ghost in the machine?

TransX. Although I sometimes make do with the Transfer MFD.

The launch autopilot will put you into a suitable parking orbit first.
