It appears that Mr. Steven has been upgraded to have a larger net on longer arms, so the Fairing Recovery Vessel might as well be updated.

Water deluge on launch pads at T-10.
Manual launch disabled while Lift-Off Timer enabled.
Fairings always removed for Dragon2 variant.
Invisible payload mass display on Control Panel for payloads > 9999kg fixed
Graphics error message in orbiter.log at shutdown eliminated.

Works great Brian.
Mr Steven even has 'restricted in ability to manoeuvre' navigation lights.

Red over white over red;
plus port (red) and green (starboard) steaming lights;
plus white masthead;
and a white stern light is the correct combination.
But this is just being too precise.

I like it too, so I left the "active" parafoil navigation function, but some time I have to try turning off the parafoil autopilot and chasing it down with Mr.Steven.


Fixed a lot of little bugs in the last update...only to find a bigger one...
The Control Panel "estimated position" for the ASDS and FRV, for the upcoming Iridium-NEXT mission, is way off azimuth....was it always that bad? It works OK for KSC launches. Not for VAFB/polar. Will take a look....

Problem solved:
The Falcon9 needs to have the correct POS value(long.lat.) in the launch scenario, even if it is "Attached" to the launch pad. Otherwise it gets the ASDS and FRV "Estimated position" wrong.

Given the correct POS for launch from SLC4E, the estimated pos. for ASDS and FRV for Iridium-NEXT mission is quite reasonable.

Hello, can anyone help me? I try to guide the falcon 9 in manual mode, but when I press the J key, it releases the load and not the first stage.

Can the first and second stage be separated in manual mode?

Brian is the expert on his addon, but if he doesn't mind.

Use the launchpad's "K" manual jettison of 1st stage and fairings (if fitted).
Then fire-up 2nd stage.
"J" key to separate payload from 2nd stage. A little thrust, retrograde burn, and fuel dump "B" for reentry of 2nd stage.
Switch to Dragon/payload and off to ISS, or required orbit.

And just realised this was an old question partellantas. Sorry.

Brian, is it normal for the fairings to run out of RCS propellant before the parafoils deploy? I'm under the assumption that if it does happen, the fairings will have no way of gliding to the net.

Hi,
not "normal" but there isn't much margin, so I'm not surprised. If the fairing is within 20km of the target, the parafoil will bring it home ok.

Can I ask, which scenario did this happen on?

On the Iridium-NEXT F4 mission.

The sats were headed to a 185 by 625 kilometer parking orbit inclined 86.66 degrees, and I made the first stage charred and expendable while the fairings were equipped with recovery hardware. Also, the F9 vehicle was in the Block 4 config.

Per its estimated position in the Launch Control Panel, the FRV was located at 26.359 N, 120.535 W and its heading was 90 degrees. I thought that the fairings would glide to the FRV while it stayed still.

Thanks. Yes, in the add-on, the fairings have active guidance for the parafoil so it glides back to FRV. Not sure this is really what happens in real life! But as long as the RCS lasts until the fairing is down to about 20 or 30km alt. it should be OK. I'll take a look at the scenario anyway and check it out.
