OK, i put in a UCD and URMS and it started to freak out (i.e. start shaking like a wet dog...)
:WTF:

FYI, how do you make orbit? I made it from KSC to Africa, but did not have enough velocity to make orbit...

How do you restart the ramcasters on reentry? I keep trying and I can't get them to catch...

this is common if you're swithing too far off the flight envelope for transition - make sure you have the crosshairs in the T2 range (see the graph thing on the center-right display) - preferrably, try to do it precisely at the point marked by the small square brackets inside that :hmm:

that also goes for explaining why its pretty much impossible to fire up the ramcasters coming in from reentry - the MPCS (Malfunction Prevention and Correction System) will "fault" any attempt to turn on the engines with would result in them exploding more likely than not....

but since neither the MCPS override, the "fault" lights, nor the engines exploding have been implemented yet - all you get is a "no go" (which is frustrating enough, i know)

but well... the ramcasters really isn't designed for firing up after reentry (use the main engines for that) - the ramcaster is mostly an "ascent engine", and that makes it rather unfit for descents, no?

so i wouldn't advise anyone to try and use it to correct a misdirected reentry or anything of that sort (unless you got some VERY unusual flight plan going on) :p

also, do mind that you should be able to reach orbit with some fuel to spare (in the "red", tho) - if you're not getting there, make sure you're flying the ascent properly, and that you have your wings folded down around mach 3~4 (red T-bar lever to hypercruise, "HPC")

that manual is really overdue - i know!
i'll see if i can make a demonstration video in the meantime

This project is both amazing and a bit intimidating!

I often teach technical writing at the college level, so when you do finally get some sort of working draft for that manual ready, I volunteer to do a bit of editing should you want it.

YAY!! im stuck on the ground cause I'm an idiot who can't get the engines to start i get them to spool but they inevitably go back down. I know I've properly over looked some super simply thing but any help would be appreciated id love a manual tho mentioning all the ins and outs of the ship

the engines will spool down if there's no pressure on the fuel lines after the start sequence is complete - make sure the master feed pumps are on for both engines before your turn them

if they were on, then make sure you really do have any fuel to begin with :hmm:

And if they're on internal mode, knock the throttle up to 5% before the spool-up finishes, or they will not ignite.

Very nice bird. It's already a lot of fun to fly.

In the WIP-3 do the SCRAM engines react differently than those on the WIP-2 when leaving the optimal ascend curve? I had problems in my ascend, as the SCRAMs shut off and tried to turn em on multiple times. I got to space after several tries, but I'm not sure if it's intended to be that difficult. (Is there maybe some dependance to the throttle lever position?).

The new sounds are also awesome. Helps a lot with immersion. Concerning the sound, have you ever tried [ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=1074"]schimz new DG-EX[/ame]? What I like with this Addon, is that the engine sounds on the external view are a lot louder then on the inside. I would look forward to really hear the power of the G42 engines, when it throttles up! :)

From personal experience... Be careful when running the Orbiter sound through a good pair of external speakers (stereo). I launch a DG-EX at near full volume and a few pictures fell off the bedroom wall. It was almost worth the evil, dagger lanced glare that I got from the wife.
This is just as awesome, but I'm not brave enough to try it without headphones (must wait until wife goes to work).

there's no difference between the engines themselves, they're really the same pair.... INT and EXT are about the operation cycle these engines are running - in EXT mode, they work as turbo-jets, feeding on the incoming airstream just like a regular jet engine does...
now INT means "internal oxidizer" - in other words, "rocket" - if you turn to spot view after switching, you can see the inlets are closed - and that "oxy" tank you've been hauling along should finally serve its purpose, since that's your oxidizer supply when you fire the main engines in space (where the atmosphere isn't really an option)

so that's the difference between them - EXT is how you get yourself up to ramcaster speed - INT is what gets you from where the ramcaster can't cut it anymore into orbit

you should have seen the look my girl gave me when i was browsing sfx samples and mixing up those sounds.... out loud... on a 66-Watt 4.1 surround rig....

i figure my neighbors probably don't like me all too much either :p

i promise, i'll write the flight manual this week :shifty:

you should see the face of the David Wilson Homes sales woman (incidentally, we dont like her, but thats another story) whenever ive been on my drumkit for a half hour.

to put it in perspective, when playing at a small gig, the guitar/bass/mic amps need to be quite big, but the drums dont need any amping whatsoever, because they're deafening anyway

im not very popular with David Wilson any more

This plus car speakers.... it'd be funny to drive down the street with this blasting at full going about 20ish. Noise complaints can be sent here

Cockpit seating

Really looking forward to trying this baby out! Only problem is I can't seem to change my cockpit position to the left hand seat, I always start in the right hand so can't see some of the controls properly. Standard CTRL+Arrow keys work in other addons, but not the G42. Any thoughts?

I did look through the forums and Google, but sorry if I've overlooked something!

James

EDIT: No idea how that happened, but I randomly clicked something (think it was the big yellow button on the LH seat panel) and ended up in the LH seat. The other thing I wanted to ask (again sorry if I've missed it in the forums) is the EFIS, I can't seem to change it from the default Main Engine or Ramcaster displays, e.g. to APU. Is this just something that's not been implemented yet or have I not done something? The readme that comes with WIP 3 only has the index page).
