The NYT website has put together an interactive timeline of the entire shuttle program, arranged in columns by vehicle. One interesting approach here is the colour coding of missions so at a glance you can see when and how the shuttle was used through different periods, from science and commercial to DOD to ISS. Mouse-over any of the missions and you get a photo and mission description:
