Okay, here's the latest.

Respectfully to my fellow Orbinauts, I have declined to use the Dragon capsule. It sounds like a great idea, and I would gladly go for it if I had time:yes: but I'm less than 9 weeks from launch and haven't even started the crew selection process yet:( so I'm going to need all the time I can get for interplanetary simulations, crew selection, and procurment.

Here is the final plan
2 XR-5s: Chronus and Hermes
1 XR-2: Intrepid
2 Arrow Freighters: Odyssey and Columbus

Departure April 25, 2012. Arrival August 14, 2012
April 22: Chronus launches for rendezvous with Odyssey and delivers cargo comprising 41 tons of base modules, followed by return to Cape Canaveral
April 23: Intrepid launches for rendezvous with Odyssey and transers the five base crew and two flight crew, then returns to Cape Canaveral
April 25: Odyssey departs for Mercury
June 15: Midcourse correction
August 10: Burns for approach setup. Target periapsis 500 km, target inclination 87.3 degrees.
August 14: Mercury orbital insertion.
August 15: Deorbit, landing and assembly of base
December 12: Columbus departs Earth for Mercury carrying second crew rotation
January 26: Columbus midcourse correction
February 15, 2013: Odyssey departs Mercury for Earth to return the first crew
April 3, 2013: Columbus makes Mercury orbital insertion
April 5, 2013: Odyssey midcourse correction
May 29, 2013: Odyssey makes Earth orbital insertion

Crew selection hasn't started yet, so there are plenty of available slots, although I'm not sure how multiplayer missions work exactly:shifty: Do you want to fly or be part of the base crew?

Applications accepted:thumbup:
The first open position for base crew is solar studies, so Filipi1205 you'll be hanging out in the dawn region of the crater:) Should be a spectacular view, but make sure your suit is shielded, otherwise :eek:wned:

The next position is Geologist, and Lydia gets it:)

I think he is going to use my hi-res textures, so the craters can be seen...

Orulex, maybe?

Wow, I didn't expect this to turn into one of those OFMM-type missions. Those sound really cool, but how exactly do they work? Just passing around the scenario and adding on to it?

Yes. And that's a good idea! Why you don't create a permanent base. Somebody lands there, bring some cargos and samples, and the other orbinaut will comeback to the base and continue the progress.

So who can develop the equipment? (Since I can't do C++:() The geology team will need drills, picks, and a mass spectrometer at the least. The solar studies team will need a spectroscope and other instruments that I'm sure I can't think of at the moment:p The biggest project will be the radio telescope. It will proably take several shipments of equipment to get that built:p
