Project Orion MPCV

Orange-SLS and EUS

The new Orange-SLS with EUS looks great. However I was unable to launch EUS+MPCV to LEO with it. Seems that the built-in Orange-SLS launcher is not powerful enough for that. Did I miss something? Is there a specific launcher version - kind of SLS Bloc II or so? (not speaking of SLS-2016 which has other issues)...

Not to steal the thread but I think the SLS2016 works fine.

Ok. I see the Utility module. It looks like it has 2 airlocks/docks. The animations issue would be the solar panels. But isn't this part of ISS?

Where is the new uppertsage?
Do you mean the new upperstage of Orion and Cargo version of sls2016?

I think its part of the new MPCV 13

You might post the picture of the Gateway station and see who has some ideas about that

Yes, the Orange-SLS with the EUS is a little tricky to launch.
Because of the higher mass of the EUS the inital acceleration is slower. So wait a little longer before tipping over after launch, and aim for a higher orbit, like 200 - 250 km.

Just before burnout of the first stage pull up to +30° to build up positve vertical speed. This will help to gain speed with the EUS, rather than fighting gravity with this stage, which is on the limit of falling back to Earth.

I also welcome flying the Orion on other launchers, like gattispilots SLS or Brians Falcon Heavy. I made the Orange-SLS only to have a comprehensive package for the Orion, so the user is not depending on multiple download packages to fly it.

Go it. I'll give it more tries.
@Gattispilot: SLS-2016 IS definitely a great add-on - no offense... To my knowledge (only) it just needs now a bigger faring to accommodate the EUS stage.

Ok. I will check into that. I just launched Orion in the SLS2016 Block 1b with cargo. But I think it has the IPSc? and not the EUS as Block 1b,2 should have.

I've made a configuration file for launching the EUS+Orion on top of SLS-2016, based on the provided SLS_BLOCKIBCARGO_day.ini (see attached).
Works fine except it looks pretty ugly and would need a special faring. I've read some posts about an existing one made by some user, but can't get it.

Ok. I kinda got it to work.

but can't get the other fairing to show?

Assuming that the Orion is attached to the launcher by an attachement point.
Then the above code let it bring its own fairing, which is a 5 m fairing that should fit on any launcher.

Ok. I got the Orion positioned on the SLS_2016. But I can't get her to launch:( No fuel is being given to the Ms2015 vessel

Did you have a suitable PRPLEVEL line?

Thanks. Yes that was it. It will lift up but also jumps into space unstable now.

Made another Deep Space Habitat from modules of the Project Alpha ISS, which is part of Orbiter's default installation.

The concept is a 500-day hab, utility tunnel with solar panels and radiator and a Harmony-type docking module. The picture above shows it with an evolved upper stage docked to the rear and an Orion approaching up front.

After some fine tuning I will include this in the next release, to have a credible docking target in Lunar orbit :)
