I have just yesterday become aware of the term "tokenmaxxing" and that it is (or at least was) a thing in the industry.

And now I am completely baffled. The main (and wrong) hype around AI is that it could make human labour redundant (it can improve labour productivity in certain areas, but the two are not the same). And some braindead idiot managers thought it was a good idea to demonstrate how effectively they're using this new tool by incentivizing employees to maximize costs??? I don't even... I really don't. The paradox of somebody constantly skimming labour costs or laying people off at every opportunity without consideration of what that will do to your productivity, juxtaposed with a competition that rewards employees for spending as much money as they possibly can...

It's just not fathomable. I knew there was idiocy going on in management, because there's idiocy going on everywhere all the time, but this degree of not just boundless, but outright malicious stupidity... I can't comprehend it. I try imagining the mind that comes up with something like that and then looks in the mirror and says "you're in the right line of work"... and I keep drawing blanks.

On a fixed monthly cost subscription model, that makes sense. On a per-token cost basis, it's a horrible idea. The AI industry only recently transitioned to a per-token cost.
