....for anyone who's ever dreamed of being an astronaut as a kid.
Hi everyone. Been a LONG time since I was an Orbinaut, and I haven't posted in forever. But I've been watching a really neat little TV show over the past week, and quickly came to the realization that this is something that I think many in the Orbiter community might enjoy.
It's a Japanese anime cartoon called "Space Brothers". Very very basically, it's about two brothers who witness a life-changing event together that makes them want to become astronauts.
The show has Japanese dialogue but excellent English subtitles. The plot revolves the two brothers, but also is heavily centered around JAXA and NASA, and includes numerous realistic touches that make it clear that whoever did the series was paying attention to detail (for instance, all the NASA and JAXA buildings are rendered in the anime so as to be the same as they look in real life). In fact, I think JAXA and/or NASA contributed somehow to the show, as it's got a "non-fiction" feel in many places, particularly when talking about astronaut training and so on.
The show is primarily for young people, but I'm 42 and I've found it's an engrossing show. Fascinating story, with many themes throughout that would be considered more adult. The plot can be a little slow, and obviously there's some anime quirks that you'll either like or hate, depending on how much you like anime (I'm not a huge anime fan or anything like that), but overall it's a captivating and at times even poignant story.
The episodes are available online if you want to watch them. Here's a couple of links to sites that contain all the episodes:
http://www.crunchyroll.ca/space-brothers
http://www.animefreak.tv/watch/space-brothers-online
And yes, you should definitely watch the episodes in order, as the show is fully sequential
Just wanted to share this very addictive show with fellow space/astronautics fans.
