Hi gattispilot and team, I am running Orbiter on a mac with Wine.
Just loaded the SLS and looking good.

Just took the Orion to the ISS and home :) Only a little learning on multistage 2015 autopilot parameters was needed for launch.

A few minor glitches:
Engaging autopilot (eg retrograde) on the capsule too soon after service module jettison causes a CTD.
The capsule and service module jump backwards in external view on jettison.
The Orion-SMS solar panel is labelled 'S' after jettison. Maybe SP or solar?

Sorry, I think, I figured it out myself. I was thinking about screenshot when a certain scenario is selected in launchpad, in a description field. I never saw it before, except when a "current state" was selected... I see a .htm file must be created with the same name as scenario as well. And photo\screenshot put in Image folder...

The developers like gattispilot offer this sometimes, don't they. I just worked it out myself.
1. Quicksave a scenario you would like to have a launchpad screenshot.
2. Copy and rename the CurrentState.htm and CurrentState.img files to match the scenario.
3. Edit the .htm code (text editor) with a new description and change the URL to point to the relevant image.
4. Change the Help parameter in the .scn scenario file to match the name of the .htm file
5. Update the Desc parameter in the .scn file
6. Enable Inline HTML in the Extras/Launchpad options tab

A researcher from Uni Stuttgart of Germany plans to use the add-on for simulation purpose in Moscow. A Gateway-Federatsiya mission is planned.

The researcher is looking for permissions from the add-ons and their dependencies authors to use the add-on in the simulation.

Just to inform all add-on developers with dependencies "bundled" with SLS & LOP-Gateway add-on.

We would like to inform longjap, the original add-on author about this as well.

Hi, your observations seem to refer to the Orion capsule:
CTD at separation I did not experience. Are you using Orbiter 2016 or 2010?

Jump backwards at separation: This is not a bug, this is a feature. :)
Reason is the shift of the CoG from the combined vessel forward to the capsule CoG.

Solar panel named S: Thanks, should be 'name of vessel'-S. Obviously the string manipulation needs to be improved.

I am using Orbiter 2016.
But I am using a mac and running Orbiter with WineHQ.
Thanks for checking this out. It would have to be a processor issue with my mac. I will sort this.

Change of Centre of Gravity causes the service module/capsule combination to jump backwards. Is that easy physics to explain? Being a science teacher, I am very interested in understanding this.

Thanks for the lovely capsule.

Hi, I can't find scenario files for block 2 configuration, I tried download it again and still can't find it
is that my orbiter error or it's realy not there?

Which source did you use for the numbers? The first configuration is supposed to get 27 tons to TLI, the full Orion spacecraft without LAS is at 26,520 kg, but the ICPS is really barely getting into TLI, when doing an approximate calculation: 2924 m/s total DV.

Apollo needed 3050 to 3240 m/s for their TLI.

EDIT: Looks like their are also not attempting an Apollo style low parking orbit, but use a ruined Oberth maneuver because of the long burn time - they should need even more DV for the ICPS.

Could the BurnTime parameter be wrong? MS/MS2015 both use it to calculate the ISP, so if it's wrong you get the wrong the propellant efficiency and therefore the wrong performance from the stage. It would be nice if we could specify the ISP directly as the "burn time" term only really applies to solid propellant stages, not liquid propellant ones.

That could be intentional, the paper states that the trajectory was used to optimize the Orion fuel use during the mission. The OTC-1 burn after TLI is mandatory, but it also states that the ICPS is ejected into a heliocentric orbit after the mission.

I also get only the same numbers as you did for the ICPS, so it seems like those numbers must be wrong to reproduce the flight plan.

What runs out of fuel the Orion or SLS. Orion is a separate module. and SLS is really a cfg and mesh

27220 kg / 1125 s = 24.2 kg/s

111010 N / 24.2 kg/s = 4588 Ns/kg

Official specific impulse: 4530 Ns/kg

No, the ini file should perform slightly better than the real thing
