Hi, guys.

I was searching for the reason NASA chooses a 747 over the C5 (found it here) when I found this.

I already knew that Buran was envisioned to have turbo-jets attached for a safe returning home after a ill reentry or if mission demands. Such engines should not only survive, but also be usable after being launched to space, be there in the vacuum taking heat and cold, and the reentry. :)

(Note: The top two engines are the ones to be used after reentry - the lateral ones were used on BTS-002, a test vehicle capable of taking off. source.)

What I didn't knew is that something like that was being thought for Space Shuttle : it would be an alternative for the SCA. The idea was to attach 5 turbojets on Space Shuttle after landing and simply fly her back home.

Another proposal was the Virtus - an huge aircraft that would carry the Shuttle on its belly the way Virgin is doing nowadays with the White Knight.

Has someone considered bringing these to Orbiter?

EDIT:
The [ame="http://orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=2588"]"Powered Buran" was done by Kev33[/ame]. It's a plus that Myasishchev and AN-255 (and the Mate Demate Crane) is also part of the add-on. :) It's old (Orbiter 2006), but it works on 2010P1.

I'm glad to inform that I'm not the only nut-cracker around. :)

Someone already had thought on something similar - but using an [ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=5377"]B-52[/ame]!

And [ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=6633"]something original[/ame] is available too.
