Back again, 1970 and frozen to death...

Underrated, but they had a lot of competition, old fashioned rockers

Another victim of 2016 :( The incredible Hagen died today at the young age of 55 years. Thus, a tiny bit of nostalgia... not all had been bad in the 1980s.

After too many SpaceX discussions... the perfect soundtrack to describe it:

Interstellar Remixes

Mostly Interstellar dubstep remixes and the occasional Inception dubstep remix. Actually listening to the Interstellar remix right now :)

I have to ask you this question, you and I are about the same age:

I am under the impression that West Germany during the Cold War was a lot "cooler" and "edgier" than Germany is today and that in the 70s and 80s it was a more creative place than it is today.

This is based on the music of the era that made it to the US.

What do you think?

and now for something alien... ahem... different!

My personal favourite since 3 months, to the point that I began studying the language:

this replaced Blue Danube during dockings:

in case of Pirate encounters in Elite Dangerous:

and some gasy country music during long trips

this one was the true travelling band, some 1.5 million kilometers in a van, mostly on unpaved roads. R.E.M. did that for a few years in the beginning, these guys for their entire 20 years career. :hailprobe:
I don't agree with their lyrics, too conservative for my taste, but still my hat is off to their voices and to the band leader, who died in a car accident this year in June. Mandriam-piadanana OM-GUI!" :tiphat:

I love this bass line, although the rapping bear is also pretty awesome. Hell this whole video is awesome.

What do you think?

I would disagree there based on what Music was heard in Germany in that era. Yes, I know, Krautrock really represented us outside... but nearly no German listened to Krautrock at that time. Kraftwerk was new. NDW started VERY creative, but then got also turned into clone hell. Luckily you missed most of it. The only true German international stars of that era had been the Scorpions though. And that is just west Germany. We also had a East.

But... if you look at what hit the charts in German from 1970 to 1989 it looks pretty...well... boring to me by German contributions. Just start looking here:

https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liste_der_Nummer-eins-Hits_in_Deutschland_(1970)

Roy Black, Peter Maffey... both sure the best in their genre. But that genre was Schlager. A lot of James Last in the album charts - at least somebody with lasting impact on the world. One of my favourite records as child came out as early as 1973 (Otto 1) ... 1978, when I was born, best selling single of the year: The Smurf Song. Top Album: Saturday Night Fever.

I don't think it was more creative or edgier then, than it is today. You just see a different one. After all, today we have Rammstein to Tokio Hotel as span what the pop world sees of us.
