To give some perspective on the size of 4K, the ideal screen size for a 4K video is 25 feet; IMAX movies are projected through two 2k resolution projectors, and projectors that show videos in 4K are typically the size of a small refrigerator. 4K is the standard resolution in digital cinemas. The name "4K" comes from the fact that its horizontal resolution is approximately 4,000 pixels. It is 4096 x 2304 pixels with a 16:9 aspect ratio in computer graphics. In digital film, the pixel resolution varies by aspect ratio.

The blog announcement:

The 4K videos themselves:

To visually demonstrate the size of this video resolution take a look at this picture, it is at 4k resolution.
Now imagine a video playing 24 frames per SECOND at that resolution. How long did it take to download just that one frame?

Hm, just three more monitors, one more video card and an internet hyperlink, and this becomes practical.

Other than the long loading times, I think I manage around 3 FPS average during the videos, not to mention it really slowed down my browser.
My monitor isn't even big enough for a 1080P resolution. :p

I don't know what you guys are talking about. It runs beautifully smooth on my new super computer I stole from NASA last week. The detail is just incredible.

I considered stealing that one, but I opted for the Pleiades Supercomputer. You couldn't imagine how difficult it was squeezing that thing out the doors. The 970 teraflops is great but I still only get 10 fps on FSX.

Are you sure that you aren't running FSX in 2330 teraflop mode? Only Jaguar can do that much.
