I thought it was a good prank, with destructive results.

"Mir platzt der Arsch" (engl. "My ass explodes"), is BTW, a slang way to say that in German you are very fed up with a situation.

Ok, Sib ... see, I did show up, as per your request.

Saw this first in Pravda, then on BBC. Anyone take credit for it yet?

Somehow, I wonder if it was a shaped charge that was installed improperly. While some "foreign" traditions have been embraced by the good folks of the Russian Federation, somehow I didn't think that taking April Fools to a higher level was one of them.

ps, just how cold is it St. Petersburg today? Cold enough to freeze the ***** off a brass monkey?

I am happy to welcome you back, StarLost! :)

Yes, a radical group formerly known for exploding a Lenin's monument in Ryazan last year. I must say, they would hardly get enough TNT for their entire monument fighting mission. Lenin is omnipresent.

Somehow, I wonder if it was a shaped charge that was installed improperly.

They might have an idea to cause a collapse, but got only a hole. Now it's estimated that the cost of the required repairs on the monument is 6 to 8 million Roubles.

It's not new here: I remember the April Fools since I learnt to read.

 Might be so, but he usually wears a coat.
