Yeah you are exactly right. Iran is definitely developing nuclear weapons and will use them against Israel if they get the chance.
The threat is very real to Israel. It must destroy Iranian facilities before it is too late. It will happen but they won't get help from America, that's for sure.
The president of Iran is a madman.
I have to (respectfully) disagree with just about 100% of that post. The Iranian President almost certainly is not a madman (less of a madman than Bush is, at any rate) - after all, the real power lies with the Ayatollah, who has the power to dismiss the president.
Now, the fact that neither of them are madmen is very important here. Why? Because the fundamental tenet of all foreign affairs/policy is that the role of a government is to preserve itself/its country - because if you don't fulfill this, you won't have anything else to fulfill. Ahmadinejad knows full well that if he ever uses a nuclear weapon on any country, Iran will most probably be obliterated. And obliteration of your country would be directly contrary to the fundamental tenet of foreign affairs, which I just stated. Hence, it follows that it is not in Iran's best interest to use any nuclear weapons, and thus they are very unlikely to use them, even if they manage to produce any.
You're probably going to come back and say that since, in your opinion, Ahmadinejad's a madman, therefore he's unpredictable and liable to do anything. The only possible reason that I can imagine for your thinking he's a madman is that he said he wanted Israel wiped off the map. So in anticipation of your saying that, I'm going to refer you back to what Ark said (although he may not have meant it this way):
their president is prattling on about how Israel needs to be wiped off the face of the Earth and spewing a bunch of jihad rhetoric
Rhetoric is the key here. As you probably know, public opinion in the Arab world is rather anti-Israel to say the least (and not without good reason, either). If Ahmadinejad wants to stay in power, as all politicians do, he needs to appeal to the public opinion, and thus you should
expect him to be sounding off right an left about how evil he thinks America and Israel are, etc etc. And remember: just because he says something doesn't mean he actually means it, or intends to follow through on it.
