Python, of the Monty variety... Heard about SciPy and NumPy, and there are a few physics-related packages that make use of Python. Why don't they teach you Fortran?

(Internal editor's note: the sinister suggestion of teaching Haskell and Lisp during CS 101 was overruled by a very vocal majority)
Hmm, first class today and it turns out we're actually going to be using some monster called 'Jython...' a hybrid of (obviously) Java and Python with (still obviously) no practical application.

Also looks like the most we'll be doing is bitmap manipulation (true-colour to grayscale, greenscale, whatever)...guess I wasted all that time reading the assigned textbook on data storage and manipulation. Well, such is the freshman's lot.

Well, darn. Got my textbooks recently and it turns out we're kicking off Computer Science 101 with Python. Was hoping to be able to do something Orbiter-related as a project this term.

Lets see........ Python and Orbiter?

Snakes on a DG?

Found this online:

"My friend's 12 year old son asked me what these things were in my truck. He was stunned after I explained their purpose."

lol My dads truck has those. This generation, we are learning less and less about how things used to be. My friends mom told her daughter (she was 8) that there was a time when Google didn't exist and there were no computers. Her daughters response was: So you used Yahoo?

Does anyone here ever still say "you sound like a broken record"?

How many now have absolutely no clue as to what this idiom means? If you were born after 1982, you came into the world after commercial Compact Discs.

I know what it means. It means that a person keeps talking on and on and on with no end, like a broken record.

I was born in 97' and thanks to my Language arts teachers, I know what it means.

There is a customer services technique called 'broken record' where you say the exact same thing to the customer. If you know the customer services techniques it makes complaining a lot more fun.

Compact Discs? Hell, do you know what a minidisc was? What about cassette tape? what about an L.P. / 45?

You forgot the 8-track.

(I have both L.P.s and E.P.s, including some 7", and several 10 inches. I still have some cassettes, but my last deck broke about a year ago.)

"The vinyl record regained popularity by 2008, with nearly 2.9 million units shipped that year, the most in any year since 1998. They are especially used by DJs and audiophiles for many types of music. As of 2011, vinyl records continue to be used for distribution of independent and alternative music artists"

I personally have a good sized collection of vinyl records. A few I've paid over $100 for. ( One is autographed. :D ) I love people's reactions when I say I listen to records. It's sad some people don't know the joy of a good record.
