after becoming tired of max2msh messing up my mesh in ways that prevent orbiter even loading it, ive been looking for another exporter, with limited sucess

first i tried Urwumpe's animator plugin, but i cannot get that to work, the export window doesnt show MSH even after running the script manually

then ive tries 3ds2msh (with the GUI), which i have got working, but all the vertex normals have been un-smoothed, so my work on ensuring that it looked smooth was ruined.

i have yet to find a mesh converter that will keep UV and texture information, support multiple materials, keep vertex normal information and most importantly; work at its job

does anyone have any suggestions? anything that works will be fine for me

thanks guys

I have used Wings3D and 3ds2Msh up to now, will be trying out Hielor's mesh exporter for wings3d, as for normals, I haven't yet got to that level of complexity (currently cannot texture).

The best one I have found is AC3D, but it costs money, 80 US $. Sometimes you get what you pay for.

i stil cant work Anim8or, it wont seem to laod the script, and i still cant export it as a MSH

heres my method:
open anim8or
go to configure
set script directory
go to "run script"
select Urwumpe's script
a CMD like window opens, though it says that it has closed the script
go to Export

but there is no option to export as MSH

any ideas guys?

I remember I had troubles to set up the plug-in too. You probably are missing a step, though I'm not sure which one. Be sure that the script is in the right directory.

im setting the directory according to Urwumpe's instruction, and then running it manually for good measure

I use it with "preload script" checked in the configuration window ( post 10 in the referenced topic ).

My [ame="http://orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=3901"].msh exporter[/ame] for Wings3D supports UV coordinates and mesh normals, along with a few other goodies allowing you to access some of the more complex features of the .msh format.

hmm, the Wings3D exporter seems to mess with my textures, when 3 go in, 36 come out in the msh... not sure whats going on there :hmm:

for animator use:
script in subfolder
and following settings
anim01.jpg

and here we have export option:
anim02.jpg

Where have you installed Anim8or to? It could be that it doesn't have write privileges so it can't save the settings.

have you unmarked "read only" attribute of the file?

deleted after the reading of your last message

my anim8or isnt "instaled" persé, its sort of , exactly as it came, just an EXE file in my Orbiter Downloads directory... is that wrong somehow?

Can you elaborate, or send me the file so I can investigate?

In some cases this sort of thing is expected, as Orbiter's .msh format doesn't support all the features that Wings3D does, so there are some workarounds that have to be done, but I'll take a look if you want.

ok, heres the texture info that SHOULD be there:

TEXTURES 3
Haworth_MPEV\Arcturus\exhaust.dds
Haworth_MPEV\Arcturus\S1\fuse.dds
Haworth_MPEV\Arcturus\S1\fuse2.dds

(after i add the filepaths before the names)

and this is what wings3d gives me:

if the script directory is set and you preload the scripts on startup of anim8or, all you need to do further is to RESTART anim8or for the changes to take effect.

thats what i thought, but when i restart it, the configuration is lost, and it reverts to its default settings (IE no directories defined at all)
