Right behind you - don't look!
Red Alert? Red is passé and a little campy (you know, all those red lights and dancing and stuff).

Mauve is the universally recognized color for "danger" these days.

DEVELOPMENT UPDATE

Well.. I'm not developing yet, I'm playing with it and enjoying it much. Frankly it rock, too bad you can't try it actually... :tiphat:

Without joke I'm still creating new scenarios and trying them all deeply, this is an essential step of dev because using the addon in "real situation" help to detect odd bugs and also help to make it user friendly and highly playable.

(texts to be corrected)

Now that's really frustrating .... I tried to scroll down for more information on the mission tips!

Please let release day be this Tuesday!

Sounds like a dying pelican.

Dude, you need to take better care of your pelicans!

Making a main engine burn is not an off-nominal situation, so you don't need an emergency alarm for that. In the long run an annoying sound will get, well..... ehrm.... very annoying. ;)

That submarine alarm is so cool...

I've always thought this was one of the most tasteful but solid "All hands, now hear this" alarms for some big machine gearing up. In a documentary I saw they were using it at the Tevatron for some kinda activation process in the collider:

Also if you want an extra voice I am on board, as it were - Here's me saying the announcement from the sound clip a few posts back:

I'm actually quite fond of the sound heard at around 23-24 seconds into the sample clip Dan posted a while back. http://orbiter.dansteph.com/delete_example_maneuver.zip

Hearing one of those in the midst of a titanic space vessel would be a little too shocking an anachronism for me.

What the heck was that around 1:04? Sounds like someone unzipping their pants and belt buckle. Some other rattling noise later on too. Like someone counting their chips at the poker table. Not sure we need all that rattling around. Can we edit this when it's ready?

Sounds like a pneumatic or electric drill to me, but I think it's supposed to be a seatbelt being pulled across a lap. The rattling noises must be extremely clumsy people buckling their seatbelts. I was only referring to the electronic humming tone repeated several times throughout the sound file, starting at 0:23, which I think is an excellent sound effect for the Arrow. Some of the other noises are a bit, er, odd.

Edit: The sound reminds me of the first few seconds of this:

It makes a good 'general alert/notification' sound IMO.

I agree with that. But as for the seatbelts, I'd just like to imagine that part. It's kind of distracting.

Yeah, I agree. It makes me feel like there are 10 people crowded right next to me loudly clacking their buckles together. Awkward.

All it needs now is the sound of a nose blowing and an overweight man wheezing throughout the duration of the burn...

Really? I like it, it makes me imagine people all throughout the ship casually snapping platforms out of the wall in corridors or quarters and strapping themselves onto them, snatching pens or drink bulbs out of the air and stuffing them in their pockets, etc.
It adds a real sense of anticipation.

If you're, desperate to try simulating life support in some manner, maybe give Biosim a try. Apparently its some sort of design tool that NASA designed to allow for modelling new LS ideas on. Just google Biosim download and hit the first link. Maybe someday we can ty its code into UMMU eh Dan?

Yes, but it would be really hard to implement them as entities... but possible. We could take Mars Simulation Project as starting point and adapt it to C++, Orbiter and a spacecraft focus instead of a planetary focus.

Oh, maybe I misinterpreted what you were talking about; I was just saying I liked the idea of a throwaway line about seat belts over the ship's PA to add a little extra atmosphere.

Sure, for those that don't like the ambiance you can edit the 40 sounds or set "security" sound to off in config. Imho the ambiance will be more evident when running sim, if those real seat belt sound make you still feel you're in toilet with a guy wearing off his pant, well... better to edit. As for the "10" guy it's a bit the case in this big cockpit. Anyway as it's randomly chosen (but don't repeat) you may have 1 belt sound, 3 or none as well. The sound are already tiny versus average volume so I can't reduce more unless you want to destroy your woofer at engine ignition.

NEW FEATURE : COUNTDOWN TIMER - sound and time acceleration

While doing scenarios I messed a huge count of burn and trajectories due to time acceleration. So I had the idea of a simple countdown timer utility that smoothly reduce time acceleration as you reach the burn time. I made it so it add also to the ambiance and tension of pre-burn.

It do only that : count to zero, play countdown sound and reduce acceleration time as you reach the reduction trigger. Delay for reduction to 1X can be set (and will be remember permanently) from 600 seconds (10mn) to 20 seconds before it reach zero.

Click "set" type "54720" (example in seconds) on keyboard

Press return:

Click start or press space key (so you can watch an MFD and start at the right time) and enjoy wild acceleration time without fear and cool countdown announce.

2012Arrow92.jpg

There are voice announce that play at 10mn, 5mn, 2mn, 1mn, 30 seconds and also the final countdown (10, 9, etc. etc.). Setting is very simple, click "set" and enter delay on real keyboard in form "hh:mm:ss" or "mm:ss" or "sssss", it's very flexible. For example "1000:60:60" would give 1001 hours 1 minute, "53670" will give 14h54m30 seconds and "1540000" (imfd "1.54M") will give 427h46m40 seconds.

Wow. I was just thinking of that this afternoon while doing some manoeuvres. It's like you're reading my mind.

For the seatbelt noises, I think they're a great idea; I just wish they sounded farther away so it's not like the whole crew is in my command cubicle with me.

This thing keeps getting better and better. The morning routine these days is getting up and checking for the new Arrow, being sad for a minute, then going back to sleep. :p

I'm really looking foward to this too.

I think it's mostly because you're concentrating on the sound file. Once it's playing in Orbiter it will be more like a slight increase in the background hum. The problem is when you have too few sound files and you start to recognize the files playing over and over. If anyone can get it right it should be our resident "sound guy".
