I mean come on, they have the advantage of having their operating system preinstalled on every new computer sold in North America, but they still cant manage to reliably get users to switch to newer versions every 3-4 years. Its 2015, and computers in workplaces still run Windows XP, XP!

And? Google can't even make Samsung upgrade their smartphones to a Android version without webkit vulnerability.

You really blame Microsoft for the idiocy of the average computer owner? Isn't even even really a compliment, that even mentally challenged people can operate a windows computer, even if they fail to see the sense behind updates?

777 is a twin engine jet. And has about 100 tons less MTOW than a 747

The 777 is itself a fairly heavy widebody jet, but the 747 pilot is in a trash-talking mood and refers to it as if it were a general aviation turboprop, because *his* plane is bigger.

No, Im just pointing out that Microsoft has been completely unable to convince users to upgrade to newer versions of windows because they tend to do a really poor job of ensuring that the transition is smooth for the end user. Some of the issues are related to drivers and hardware support, which is not directly Microsofts fault, but there are a lot of changes that break users workflows without good reason. If Microsoft hadnt been so intent on forcing windows 8 to be two things at once, it probably would have been a hit, but they seem to have learned that lesson for Windows 10.

My original point was that Microsoft research was waaay behind, because Microsoft had every advantage heading into the 2000s to be a major player in tablets, mobile devices, and internet services like search, all of which are markets that Microsoft is barely competitive in today.

But I feel we are heading towards the OS wars thread here, maybe this discussion should be moved there

Sorry, but thats one thing I can't really understand - if such a issue happens with other operating systems, its fine, but for Windows, every configuration issue of the end user, any lack of making sure that a system meets the minimum hardware requirements is blamed on Microsoft?

Why?

I am not denying that there is a lot of stuff you can blame Microsoft for. But I really think it would be better for the progress of IT, if you look at the real issues, and not just join passing the buck.

Again, thats not their fault directly, but the issues with workflow are. But there is nothing stopping Microsoft from directly manufacturing the hardware themselves someday. In fact I think that was supposed to be the idea with buying Nokia, possibly?

No issue there. I dont feel Microsoft is to blame for everything wrong in IT, its just that they do such a thorough job of shooting themselves in the foot. And watching someone shoot themselves in the foot is frustrating :shrug:

Im not a fan of Apple tech myself, but what difference does Steve Jobs absence really make to apple?

Jobs would never have let that stupid iWatch thingie get out.

When he died I predicted that over time, as they coasted on momentum, Apple would eventually become just another tech company, making all the same mistakes and groaning under its own weight like MicroSoft and the rest. It may take a while, but remember that Apple had to bring Jobs back to keep from sinking in the first place.

This is what I see (I'm probably wrong) at this time is happening the phenomenon that in my country is told to "reinvent the wheel". Any enterprise manufacture a ridiculous device and they put Internet. Today there have been great advances in technology, but most of the ideas were lost.
At least in my country most phones have Android, and do all exactly the same functions (mainly contain viruses that are very difficult to remove).

I do not know if the offer is varied little, or too much advertising the same products.
Even to the media have lost seriousness, inter alia, used as sources of information social networks that generally do not reflect things accurately. For example:

Possibly - at least if you look at the Lumia series, this seems to be true.

But I think, if you look at Microsofts Minecraft deal, the reality is that Microsoft doesn't really invest into products as much as into ecosystems.

Also, what kind of workflow should Microsoft do better there? They want to earn money with their products, so they have only the option of selling major versions with new features or the new way of making the base operation system free (to play) and let the people pay for the DLCs.
