Anything you can hear in Alaska and New Zealand is a big event.
Yep. As of today, initial shockwave got recorded as it passed the second time around the globe, as well as the one going 'the other way'. Saw some estimates of 150-200 megatons equivalent, but I'm not sure on what they're relying to get that number. Capital city is/was like 40 miles away from that. Not sure how bad the shockwave would have been at that distance, even ignoring the tsunami.Apparently the shockwave of the Tonga volcano has been detected by a barometer at a nearby meteorological center:

The capital has a reef between it and the volcano hence the smaller wave. There are now reports of bigger waves on outer islands that are more concerning.Right now it looks like a "weak Tsunami" caused most of the damage in the capital, but some of the smaller islands are still cut off from the rest of the world, because one major internet cable failed during the eruption. Lots of ash as well.

We sent a few planes for recon, not sure how close they could get (P-8 and P-3). It will be a couple of days until RAN and RNZN can get ships in close.
Here we go, sticking our nose into a conflict that doesn't directly concern us again.
Russia-Ukraine crisis: UK sending weapons to defend Ukraine, says defence secretary
The defence secretary says he is sending short-range anti-tank missiles amid Russian invasion fears.www.bbc.co.uk
"The first batch of light anti-armour weapons was sent on Monday, although the defence secretary did not specify the type."
Anyone know what that might be.?
Thanks Urwumpe, only one I could think of was the PIAT. That would be getting a bit old now...
That is arguable... The UK is a NATO member, and if Putin takes the Ukraine, NATO will have to deal with the consequences in one way or another, sooner or later...Here we go, sticking our nose into a conflict that doesn't directly concern us again.
