News NASA's Future: The News and Updates Thread

Well, in Germany we also love exceptions to all our rules!

And I've never heard of Pagnappff. Probably because I served in a battalion that was taken over by the US Army and consisted of more than 50% civilian employees.

Pagnaappf is deeply infantry, so don't worry about never learning it. I think even tank batallion recruits didn't learn it.

All my english teachers are screaming in my head that 'An ULA' is correct, but man does that not feel right to say it.

If you're just pronouncing "ULA" letter-by-letter "You-ell-ay", then "a ULA" is correct because the name of the letter U begins with a y sound. Same goes if you're pronouncing the acronym the same as you would "EULA" ("you-luh"). If you're pronouncing it "ulla" or "ooluh", then you'd use "an".

The one thing that determines whether you use "a" or "an" is if the next word begins with a Vowel, as pronounced (not as spelt).

Orion could, in theory, also be launched by other launchers. But that will also cost money.... The real joke could be a Orion on a Ariane 6, so Europe pays for saving the US face.... (Of course, Orion could use some downgrading to become just a space station taxi and Ariane 6 would need a major performance upgrade since Orion is a massive spacecraft.... its launch mass is heavier than Dragon and Starliner together...)

I must say an Ariane 6 / Orion LV would be quite cool. @jacquesmomo : could make nice 'what if ?' scenarii for your addon :p

Now my take on this is that retiring both the Atlas V & the Delta IV EELVs was simply criminal. At least we know who benefited from the crime...

I just say "ULA" without the article, pronounced like the name of Ulla in The Producers.

... but money still exists for this insanity🤦‍♂️
The Discovery display at Udvar-Hazy is one of the most bad-ass displays of flight hardware anywhere:

Why do they want to wreck this and waste taxpayer's money doing it? It seems all they want to do is break everything good about the US and waste money doing it.
