What if Apollo didnt end in 1972? What if Apollo had put a base on the moon as originally planned in the mid to late 60s? With around the same cost as the development of the Space Shuttle and a second Saturn V production run NASA could have put an early lunar base and and advanced base in place, leading up to continuous occupation through 1976, the US Bicentennial year. In addition at the same time an expanded LEO programme could have done the same with Skylab.

This add-on explores the vehicles and missions that would have made it happen. The LM HAB, the LM Truck, LESA, LLVL, LLVS, Saturn II and Saturn V-B.

Can run on 2010 and 2006. Requires AMSO, Velcro Rockets, Velcro Saturns, Spacecraft3 and patch (for 2010), Multistage2 and patch (for 2010). For landings LOLA MFD (for correct version) and Auto Hover and SurfaceSpeed MFD's for landing in 2010. Optional orbiter sound and AMSO sound.

This looks pretty neat; can't wait to download and play around with it on my main computer! I've been hoping for a Beyond Apollo addon compatible with AMSO, so thank you for your work.

I've always found the original plans for the missions beyond the original Apollo program rather intriguing; it's tantalizing to imagine what might have been, had Saturn V production been extended (although I can't help but think about the budgetary feasibility of such, but that's for another discussion). Anyways, thanks again; I appreciate it.

I gave this addon a try and I am very pleased with it. All of the vehicles work as advertised and they finally give me a fun payload for those mighty saturns. I might even consider setting up a mission with them being launched on the biggest uprated saturn for a Mars or even outer planets mission. I'm curious enough to see how far they can go. An excellent addition to orbiter.

As a kid I sat in front of a black and white TV and waited to see Alen Shepard blast off and as a teenager was the only one in the room who knew when Charlie Duke called up "30 seconds" to Eagle meant. as life went on I too went to work and sort of forgot the manned spaceflight stuff, Then I read an article on the Apollo 18, 19, and 20 missions and it really turned me back on to the moon flights. I had read many books and looked at the landing sites and sen who might have been the crews for these missions. I can't wait to down load your addon.
many thanks

it would be nice to see the Gruman moible lab deploy and be used on this landing site with the EVA guys and a hard suit was planned for Apollo 18,19 and 20. ( See the eva guy in the dyna-soar addon.) I hope someone takes the time to do a Skylab II addon with the logistics module, two Apollo's docked and an AMU ( see AMSO Apollo 9, and add some control arms.)
Great job and many thanks

It's rather disappointing that today, many don't know we landed on the Moon six times and stayed for three days the last three, how scientifically fascinating/spectacularly picturesque the landing sites were, or flat-out deny that we even went. Apollo was an incredible era in human history.

I haven't seen a Skylab II addon, but if you're interested in the efforts to refurbish the original Skylab in the late 70's and early 80's with the Space Shuttle, you should check out the [ame="http://orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=3555"]"Skylab1980" addon[/ame] by Usonian. I'm pretty sure it requires Usonian's equally intriguing [ame="http://orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=2976"]"Skylab1973" addon[/ame].

Now if you want something BIG on your Saturn V

voyn5mup.jpg

This is pretty beyond Apollo too. Can you do this next please? (the one on the right)

This is the one i'd like to do,

http://www.thespacereview.com/article/175/1

100 Megatons on a Saturn V and all in a good cause ... why couldn't my uni classes be as interesting as these guys!!! Here's a field trip to cape canaveral, organise the theft of 9 Saturn V's and a few other launches, and by the way figure out how to shoe horn the biggest nukes we can build or borrow onto them!!!!

Well we can knock one item off of the to-do list.

Create an uprated F-1A powered and slightly stretched Saturn V that would probably
have been used on later missions

Uprating the engines of stages is a capability built into Velcro rockets. The stretched S-1C already came with velcro saturns. Here is the Lunar Logistics Launch scenario with a stretched S-1C:

Code:
BEGIN_DESC
Launch the Lunar Logistics stack to orbit on a Saturn V. In reality, tandem logistics stack is marginal on a standard Saturn V so a stretch S-1C stage with F-1A engines (not modelled here) would probably have been used. However it is still possible to get to orbit on the correct plane for TLI with the 70% fuel load left in the S-IVB to reach the moon.

Note: you will have to fast forward to the correct launch window which will be at night around Dec 07 05:55 GMT.
Note also AMSO scenery is used so as to provide the correct base scenery on the moon to attempt a landing.
