The German space agency, DLR, has been experimenting growing tomatoes
in a container full of urine. The experiment is designed to test recycling of waste as a means of growing food for future space colonies.

An experimental satellite containing the package is scheduled to be launched
on a SPACE X FALCON 9 rocket later this year to test the concept.

Urine is a great fertilizer as a soil amendment, too good actually. It can burn plants due to excess nitrogen. Tomatoes are nitrogen hogs so this might work really well.

They should also look at rhubarb. It grows *really* well in uncomposted raw manure and horse urine, which would kill most other plants. As a matter of fact I need to get a few buckets of stall muck from my neighbor so I can top dress my rhubarb.

Great. That gives "Space Jam" a whole new meaning... :shifty:

(My excitement about this is kept low by the fact that I happen to hate rhubarb. Rabarberabarberabarber...)

I didn't think anyone could make rhubarb sound any MORE disgusting than it already is.

Oh, I enjoy tomatoes in many forms, but the amount of additional ingredients required is significant.
In their unmodified state, I don't touch them.

I grew up next to a tomato farm in South Jersey, famed for its great tomatoes.

New Jersey is also famous for Bruce Springsteen and Bon Jovi. I don't like those, either.

Tomatoes are good for making sauce and ketchup. Not much else.

My wife grows heirloom variety tomatoes which don't resemble the mass-produced watery starchy pink things that pass for tomatoes in the store. I am not a tomato fan but I do look forward to enjoying a few of her tomatoes in late summer, they're really tasty.

And my famous Tuna Spagetti Salad. Which wouldn't be complete without cherry tomatoes.

I like tomatoes, especially the sweeter ones. Even pure. Its nothing you can eat all day... but some sliced tomatoes with black pepper...
