I'm working on a new base addon. Part of the planned addon is a circular track approx 100m wide but approx 50 km in diameter (it circles the Pavonis Mons caldera). Can RC 4 handle an object mesh of this size or would I be better off just painting a track texture on the applicable terrain tile?

Not sure if it could handle it, but it does sound like a clear case for tiles, yes. I assume you'll have to even that thing out in any case.

I think it can handle it. In the past, there have been some add-ons with extremely large meshes, such as:

Stanford torus: [ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=4955"]http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=4955[/ame]

O'Neill Island 3: [ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=4581"]http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=4581[/ame]

The "Big Wheel": [ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=2548"]http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=2548[/ame]

As a suggestion, you could try just a small piece of the overall project, and scale it up until it stops working or it is complete.

I've made for myself for a terrain at London, four meshes sitting side by side, on the ground, in form of domes. They was, each 39 km on 22 km, meaning around 80 km x 45 km for all. Textured with tiles. There was no reals problems to load the scene.

Thankyou all for your advice. Nothing for it but to give it a try. BTW, I'm planning a rendition of Sheffield and the Pavonis Mons complex from Green Mars. Initial planning is in 3 phases. I haven't tried to see if Kulch's Space Elevator will work with RC4 yet. I suspect it won't and may have to write my own. Anyone tried it yet?
