Wouldn't want to be living near that SAM in an armed conflict...

1. Steal one
2. Sell it on ebay
3. Get $$$$ ££££

I hope they remember the first law of ballistics: What goes up, must come down...

"Do you live in an apartment?"

"Are you near an airport?"

"Are sick and tired of aircraft noise?"

"Well I have a deal for you!"

"For just 10 easy payments of $1 million, you can have the latest in SAM technology installed on your roof!"

That is a joke/hoax, right?
Or have i missed a war brewing up in europe?

Its a sort of war...

Big clampdown on light aircraft flying in the area too.

The document states: "Having a 24/7 Armed Forces and police presence will improve your local security and will not make you a target for terrorists.

Well, thats alright then.

What kind ot threat those missiles are supposed to counter? Someone flying RC aircraft loaded with some explosive, that's huge overkill for such minor threat, debris from missile potentially could injure/kill more people than RC plane armed with tiny bomb.
If it is September 11 type attack (extremely unlikely since those attacks were possible only because passengers thought it will be regular hijacking then demanding ransom thing) with hijacked jetliner then it is already too late since shooting down large aircraft over densely populated area would kill hundreds no matter where it crashes.
Most likely type of terrorist attack is suicide bomb/car bomb and for that kind of threat those missiles are useles.
Besides countering terrorist threat is job for police, special forces and intelligence agencies not regular military.

Just 91 days away from the start of the Olympics, this scene gives a foretaste of what can be expected this summer after a man threatened to blow himself up in a busy office block.

can't tell if just kidding, or serious -_-

I used to live around that area and I'll guarantee that when the MOD come to remove the missiles they'll find all the copper wiring missing (and probably few other components) as they'll have been sold to the local scrap merchant.

Seriously though what a terrible idea. I wonder what commercial pilots flying into London think of it.

They'll probably be ok, as long as their radar signature dosen't match a Scud...

That's the other point - what happens if they are needed to be used? Whats to stop a missile locking onto the wrong target? London's airspace is pretty densely packed with 6 major airports within a 50 mile radius of the capital.

The bigger problem I see is, that it does exactly the wrong thing. It doesn't really offer you much protection against terrorism.

Unless they create a perimeter defense around London, for intercepting things before they reach the urban area, terrorists will have won - even the debris of a drone packed with explosives or biological weapons can cause serious damage.

Also, such missiles make good weapons of terror as well... how hard would it be to hijack such a missile, if you have many of them employed in terrain that does not favor you? They must not even launch the missile...

BTW, it is going to be a Starstreak system. Pretty small and without radar, but useless against fast planes.
