Is it possible to see Venus in the middle of the day?
Yes

I have a nice graphical app on itouch that tells me when the best time for planet sightings are, provided I am not obscured by clouds.
Can't find a good online program for that though.
I use Stellarium too. I tried seeing Venus when, according to it, was directly south, but I couldn't see it.You may have already tried it, but I like Stellarium for finding positions of planets and other celestial bodies of interest..
