Sounds like my niece trying to play my out-of-tune piano.

To make it less jarring open the prefrences pane in the lower left and set the speed lower and switch to a softer instrument. I managed to make music box sound very creepy.

Now this is truly creepy stuff! Good thing it is beyond the audible spectrum usually.

Well, it's not even a pressure wave, it's an EM wave, so regardless of frequency you cannot hear it without a radio receiver to convert it, but, yeah, you're right.

If you surf the web a bit, you'll find that every body with a significant magnetic field makes these radio noises, including Jupiter and the Earth. One noise I found somewhere was from the Gallileo vehicle as it crossed Jupiter's magnetopause bow shock, very cool.

You can hear some of the Earth noises with a shortwave or AM radio.

But Saturn's noises are the scariest I've heard so far.

Reminds me of this CD:

It had a load of data-driven-synthesizer "music" that was unique to each world and/or setting. And Jupiter's EM (linked) is the most creepy.

Make sure you do not have your MIDI output muted.

Did you try selecting another output device in the preferences of moonbell?

Far out! They're all truly beautiful sounds. The Moon sounds quite acceptable interpreted as Chinese, it brings pictures of junks sailing around Foochow harbour to mind.
