went to best buy and got an attack 3 joystick. mapped the rudder and elevators to the hat buttons. are there any other commands that i really should have mapped to it? i got throttle and brakes but i cant really think of anything else to put on the last 5... also should i map anything to the trigger?

as an afterthaught, is there a way to make the rudder return to the default position after i let go of the button? it gets annoying how it sticks to where i left it until i manually move it back. and then it alwayse seems to be off by just a little bit
Okay, you got a very, very bad stick, and you got ripped off, too. Most sticks these days have a "twist" function as a third axis which you use for rudder. For the same price you could've gotten a [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Extreme-Joystick-Silver-Black/dp/B00009OY9U/"]Amazon.com: Logitech Extreme 3D Pro Joystick (Silver/Black): Electronics[/ame]
which has not only a twist stick but also a separate throttle lever.

You'll want to put flaps up on a button, flaps down on another, and landing gear on a third. You'll probably also want transmit voice on your stick, if you have a headset.

But seriously...if it's at all possible, return that stick to the store and order the one I linked above for the same price. Alternately, Best Buy also carries the Logitech Extreme, but for $45.

I have a Saitek AV8R. There are 4 switches, but there's a dial that has 3 modes, so you can program 24 different commands on them.

The Logitech joystick that Heilor linked to is very good, same exact one I have actually. It has lasted me many years, well worth it.

I commented in game, but I'll put it here too -- you need to hit the "Transmit Voice" key in order to broadcast on the radio. By default this is caps lock--hold it down and you'll transmit, let go and you'll stop. You can adjust this in the settings.

You can do the "Carrier Tutorial" or "Carrier Practice" missions, or see the list of AI carriers here for free flight: http://www.simtours.net/defaultaircraftcarrier.php

I also recommend the T-45 to learn carrier ops--it seems much more forgiving than the F/A-18. It's linked earlier in this thread...I'll add it to the first post.

lol i dont think i need anything more forgiving. so far iv landed perfectly 8 of 8 attempts

theres gotta be an easier way to find these carriers. could you set their ID as a destination or something?

also, how do i convert an FSX recording so someone without FSX can watch it?

I'm not gonna be able to join you this week, because I'm going to be going camping. I hope you weren't planning on doing anything special for it. It is the 65th anniversary of D-day, after all.

...Interesting, I hadn't thought of that.

Too bad there aren't many good WWII planes in FSX--anyone have some good (preferably free) ones?

Looking around briefly...haven't tried any of these but they're recommended.
Spitfire (two-seat version):

Bristol Beaufighter:
http://www.sim-outhouse.com/index.php?lloc=downloads&loc=downloads&page=info&FileID=11831

There might also be some good ones in Simviation's "Vintage" section, but they can be a pain to scroll through:
http://www.simviation.com/simviation/index.php

If you have or know of or try a good plane, let us know!

tl8 pointed out some of the first airplanes on this page (Seafire and ME109):
http://www.simviation.com/simviation/?type=item&ID=66&page=12
http://www.simviation.com/simviation/static.php?ID=66&page=13

Again, if anyone tries any of these, let us know!

The default DC-3 isn't that bad, is it?
I've never personally flown it, but it's probably not that bad.

The stock planes that could qualify as being from that era:
DC-3
Grumman Goose
Piper Cub

The stock P-51 I don't really count, since it's a modern racer and tends to blow up when the pilot sneezes.

tl8 also pointed this out...it's not for multiplayer, but could be interesting for this weekend anyway:

There is this one paint that resembles a WW2 scheme, except for the right wing. Forget which one it is, though.

The stock P-51 also only has a fuel tank in the left wing, which isn't how it would've been in WWII...

Well, that ME109 looks not that nice, and I have a low FPS in VC.

I'll fly the C-47 included here: http://fsdownload.com/modules.php?n...ownloads:_Mission,_Pathfinder,_V1.0#dldetails

I'll let Autopilot fly the plane between England and France as I'm watching TV currently.

The June 26th session will be quite interesting. Flying virtually for an hour or two, then having to leave to go on a real plane.

That's really interesting.

What do we do June 13th? Maybe some searching? For example one of us lands in a remote place, and the others have to find him (without using Multiplayer view). I got that idea after flying the missions "Missing coworker" and "CAP search".
