Chasing the ISS through the upper atmosphere...
10_07_16_14-50-00_Esper.jpg

Disastrous, certainly, but surprisingly fun. Flying at 80-90km at orbital speeds is sort of like a cross between atmospheric and orbital flight. In other words, the way space works in sci-fi. I could turn around and coast retrograde past the ISS, then flip over and give a short engine blast to follow her back up to the thermosphere.

The disastrous part is that, after a few orbits like that, we'd both go down somewhere in the Pacific...

well... yesterday i was checking out the settings for my G42's turborocket engines... the vessel uses a lookup table to figure out efficiency and temperature values, instead of fixed functions...

while this is more flexible, it comes with the drawback that i MUST map values for the entire mach/altitude grid... and failing to do so, results in pretty unexpected effects

for the first stage, the flight envelope is mapped tightly to a maximum of 20k alt and mach 2.5... well, i flew past that

what happened, to put it shortly... well, i really don't remember the last time i got to orbit SO fast ... and i got to see how hard you gotta burn to make the reentry flames completely white

but by no means thats my greatest disaster, that's just my most recent one

I just did one,

I was orbiting retrograde, and flying on the MIR's orbital plane. and WHOOSH! I fly past the ISS 0_o. five minutes later, I collided with the MIR.

ok, this one's more of a near miss.

I set up a base on the moon using the UCGO Shuttle-A and decided to put the UCGO satellite into orbit. I got up there, unpacked it, and realized that it was misaligned. I EVA'd and re-aligned the satellite just as the sun set over the lunar horizon, oh bugger.

I managed to station keep with the satellite for a while, but it started to drift off. I waited and found the satellite again, kept my sorry butt near that satellite, and BOOM, after the sun had risen, I ingress'd into my vessel and said thank you to the god that put the little green light on that satellite.

Somewhere, but not here.
One time when I was playing around with the XR5 and docked to fast with the ISS causing the ISS to fall. the Zarya/Zvesda modules started burning retro deorbiting the ISS and it's crew.

(A note "I admit, I did have fun doing it")

Might or might not have posted this one: placing a lunar-mass black hole in MEO...

Kind of a minor disaster story with Moach's G42; I didn't cause this one, but I covered it in the media:

I set a black hole on a colision coures with Earth. Several minuts befor impact it took my Delta Glider IV off Earth and tore it to shreds.

When objects suck your spacecraft off planets, it's pretty obvious that they'd be destroying the planet...

"No way, that's impossible!"
I saw that coming a mile away.

Anyway, pretty much any of my G-42 test flights were disasters...Especially the Wideawake incident. We shall not speak of the Wideawake incident. :shifty:

I have put this off for a while but here is my little biggest disaster I made...

Uh oh...

That was close...

Almost touching... poor Moon

The approach...

A DG landed was unaided, was able to make (unstable) Orbit without anything other than rotational thrusters. I wont say anything about the objects already in orbit though...

This planet approaches at about 34k m/s

Lol.I have a lot of disasters from when i just started orbiter:
1)Deorbited and crashed the shuttle into the gulf of mexico.
2)Nuked kennedy space center(whoops)
3)Somehow caused the Space Shttle to filp out during launch(although the ummu still survived lol)
4)Abandoned A ummu in space
5)Left payload bay doors open on the shuttle
6)Crashed onto the launchpad(failed landing)
7)Many,many more fails too much to count

I used to practice my XR2 suborbital nuclear bombing runs on Orbiter City.

Surprisingly hard. Ascend and reenter without letting your coolant overheat, slow down enough that your bombs won't overshoot the target, then hammer on the thrusters and hope you have the fuel to make it to some kind of landing site.

1. Screwed up earth gravity and rotation so everything was flung off the surface...
2. Did a hypersonic bombing run over the texas to simulate a hypothetical military strike in the possibly future former US...
3. Crashlanded on the sun and was flung out at 125.00001c...
4. Mesh replacement for various addons...
5. Far-Bombed militant separatist on Brighton beach.
6. Vaporized Ummu with rocket blast (Turned on the engines and the dude died)
7. One man flight from the moon to earth.
8. Screwed up atmosphere to the point where horizon texture was non-existant.
9. Screwed up ring texture to the point where i could not see the DGIV
10. Screwed up configs to the point where everytime i press F1 my dgiv is put 5 meters above the previous point.
11. Crashed Hius into gliese 876d
12. Stuck to NRGas together...

I had my Shuttle screw ups. I never knew IMFD that well for planetary transfers. I am going to screw with the moon when i get home for fun!
