pfft, come on, Ive played violent video games most of my formative years, and im mostly 'normal'. games like Call of Duty, Medal of Honor, Battlefield, and many others used to be a symbol of the 'greatest generation'... after the games went modern, it was more of a thing for small children to play, most who were old enough to understand what the games were portraying, were in the thick of it. Ive never harmed anyone that didnt ABSOLUTELY 100% deserve it. If i ever have kids, id tell them, 'what you do in that video game, you DO NOT do it outside of that televisison or monitor, unless your life or the lives of others are in danger. As long as you have decent grades, and you get a good exercise everyday, im fine with you playing those type of games.' There's a certain cut-off limit to the minimum age one should be allowed to play these video games. I can almost guarantee you, I can walk into gamestop, and purchase Gears of War 3 (chainsaws+guns= ^O^) and im 16. I believe that the ESRB rating is M+ (17 and up) so, when you see school shootings that were the result of a seven year old killing his classmates because he thought it was a game, you can impose stricter rulings. Until that point, the ratings will be what they are, the content will be what it is, and people will always be killing people.
