Idea We can do this much better! (NASA Aqua)

Yes, I'm pretty much 'into' motion capturing at the moment (we create/sell motion capturing systems for C4D). Maybe that's why I'm a bit biased towards using 3D software instead of Orbiter for this purposes :P

exactly, so you see why it's useful, i mean dynamics sims in 3d apps only go so far, its not like orbiter running inside 3d studio or c4d, but taking the mocap data from orbiter would essentially make that possible as far as the end result is concerned.

@Urwumpe:
How easy would it be to put bumpmaps into Orbiter?

You would need to ask somebody else for a second opinion, but currently, it looks like the mesh format does not all including bump maps, possible that the dds format allows them, but Orbiter does not use them.

I think we need a Higher Direct X for Bump Maps

no you can do that in dx 7 i think, its just that the engine doesn't support it. and .msh does not seem to support multiple maps, though concievably you could use your colour map as a bump as well its not a good way of doing things.

dds has nothing to do with it either, thats just an image format.

bump mapping though, is well past it, it's not industry standard and hasn't been for some time since normal and parallax mapping took over earlier in the decade (the doom3 era). they kinda work the same way as bumps... except rather than a greyscale you can use a full RGB image which, simply put, means you can put a lot more information into your surface than you can with a bump and you have a much more convincing effect.

By the way... How can i implement the bump mapping for orbiter? :P
