Touchdown confirmed !
I am going to cut the entire record to keep just the correction and the landing to let you see if you haven't watched it.

But as usual:

Successful landing by Discovery!

Okay, now I need for Chronus to being return procedures. After landing, your next launch will be December 19.
Belay that. I have to add Chronus back in first...

Okay, here's the thing. That CTD problem is still out there. We managed to work around it by removing Chronus, but obviously that isn't a permanent solution: at some point, we have to put Chronus back in, without a CTD resulting.

I've linked the problem directly to Chronus, but it only seems to occur when the ship is in space. If I scenario edit her onto the ground, the problem goes away. To me, that says it's a problem with either the ship's orbit (I tried changing it, to no avail), or the oxygen systems.

Sorindafabico, I want you to try updating the clock using the state you uploaded in post #981, and tell me what happens. If there is no CTD, then I can only figure that it's something happening with my computer, and you should be able to handle it.

I tried changing several parameters, no joy. I need all of you guys to start digging. We really need to have this fixed by the 12th.

Regards,
TMac

No CTD.

I need a state with Chronus (the last update) to try the landing. I'll do it tomorrow.

Okay, here it is. I spliced Chronus back in using the state from #987, as well as ChronusBay1 (UCGO rack), and the Carina. Your position and velocity are not quite accurate, but that's pretty minor compared to the problems we've been having. It shouldn't stop you from updating the clock or landing.

PS: When you updated, did you have both dropdowns set to "Propagate along osculating elements"? It doesn't matter much now since Discovery is on the ground, but it will be important in future missions.

I had some impediments, so I cannot do anything. I think in Wednesday I'll take-off to an arrival at ~Staturday.

That should be right. By adding little more dV we can reduce the travel time to 3 days.
Discovery here, we are ready tosay goodbye to our good old Blue Marble !

No. Both were default. "Propagate" to objects in orbit and "fixed position" to suborbital.

CRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAP!!! :mad::mad::mad:

Err...sorry for my display of temper:embarrassed: It wasn't directed at you; I just thought we might be seeing the light at the end of the tunnel there. This problem has frustrated me to no end. I just have never seen Orbiter behave like this before.

BTW, I tried a blank scenario with an XR-5 in it, set both boxes to "Propagate", and it worked without a problem. So it seems to be only Chronus that is causing the problem.

Well, it shouldn't matter as long is Discovery isn't in transit between the moon and Earth. But whenever it is, we'll have to keep Chronus on the ground.

For the moment, you're cleared to proceed with reentry using the default drop-down settings.

I'm going to consult with some senior Orbinauts about this glitch.

A hearty well-done to the crew of Chronus!:cheers:
Chronus has been taxied into the hangar and defueled, and the crew moved back into the building.
SolarLiner, we have that new SAS for you:)
The mechanics had to use a really cute trick to install it--they gave the hovers just a tiny nudge, and attached it by crane while the ship was floating just above the pad. A very dangerous move, but it worked:hailprobe:

You also have some new hover engines (standing unzip and copy). Go easy on them when you lift off--they're much more powerful;)

Also, to all IHP members of both teams: I'm introducing a new safety regulation. When UMMUing, always wait until your heartbeat returns to normal before entering a spacecraft or vehicle. The reason is that the computer remembers your last heart rate, and when you leave the vehicle, your heart rate does not go back below that level, so it accumulates like mad. I've had quite a few Orbinauts running around for days with heartbeats of 110 or more:lol:

With that, I'd like to say good job to Sorindafabico and Mattyv. I know I must be driving you guys crazy:lol: And good luck to the crew of Discovery. We'll see you soon;)

Regards,
TMac

Please disregard the last state--I sort of forgot to switch on Chronus's external cooling:facepalm:

That's fixed now:) This is the new correct one.

Bruce, here are the meshes for the waste tank and the mass spectrometer. I haven't tried to do the hydroponics tank yet.

I have an off-topic question:

What do you think about an Iron Hill style lunar program? Something to simulate the building of lunar infraestructure (the building of Brighton Beach, maybe?), with mining/scientific facilities. We can run as a "paralel universe" project (specially if it involves BB building) or use the same universe of Iron Hill (if we decide to build other base(s)).

I don't want to crowd O-F with every kind of Iron Hill copies, but a real time lunar program would be cool because of the Moon's proximity.

It's something to think about for sure. You could even head up the project while me and the Deep Six crew are on the way to Jupiter next year (or possibly the year after at this rate:shifty:) I really like that idea:) And you'll have both Arrow freighters and an XR-5 (we left Hermes at the Cape:()at your disposal staring next September:). We could build the new base at the Apollo 11 site and call it Armstrong Field:thumbup:

Regarding the rapidly accumulating number of IHP states, I'm planning to go through and delete a bunch of the older ones from the forum. I'd like to set up a more efficient method of keeping the project up to date. OrbitHangar comes to mind, but I'd have to set up a whole new account and give everyone the password--I'm not sure the mods would take that very well.

We could decide the base site based in a technical and logistical point of view. Apollo 11 site is cool, but NASA wouldn't like too much =p We can organize a expedition to there, however.

For the chosen site, we may try to use the LROC database to do ground textures.

About the veichles: I have a little restriction to use the Arrow - I LOVE the Arrow, but it makes things too easy in cislunar space. Also, it's UCGO-only payload system "forbids" us to transport non-inflatable station/base modules (it would be cool code some base modules in C++). XR5 is good for the task. But I do not discard Discovery and Odyssey - they could be very useful. Also, we can add a XR1 or a XR2 for crew transport purposes.

A IMS-based station in lunar orbit and a couple of satelites (in case of a far side base) would be nice too.

If we use the IHP universe, it's better to open another thread or can we discuss the lunar program here? What the other guys think of the idea of a lunar program?

About the states: you can select the most important of them and release a package in OH.
