Here in NL much of the grass is already dead due to drought. This is the third year in a row. Yellow and brown grass was something you only saw once every few years in late august. Not every year from May onwards.

It makes me sad. From the air, it's easy to see that the landscape isn't prepared for this. Meadows seldom have big trees. So many animals don't have any place to hide in the shade.

Luckily we had a much needed break from the drought here in the past days.

Still, it looks far too bad for Germany: https://www.ufz.de/index.php?de=37937

Yeah, quite a while ago, actually:
https://ir.take2games.com/news-rele...erbal-space-program?field_nir_news_date_value[min]=

What I don't quite get is how you can just unilaterally cancel a contract. I mean, what the hell are contracts for?

If your contract is the other guy's only source of income, where is he going to get the money to sue? Star Theory is already dead, and unless they had a large investor or creditor that wants to get their money, I can't imagine that the owners bring able to raise the money to sue (I can almost imagine the player base for the existing KSP setting up a GoFundMe for the purpose, but obviously that would go over like a lead balloon on the official forums, and in any case I can imagine the courts having some sort of legal objection to a GoFundMe'd lawsuit).

As for microtransactions, the staff leadership that came over to the new studio has remained adamant that there will be no microtransactions, and, given that, I can't really imagine Take Two managing to get microtransactions into the game without driving off both their existing development team *and* player base. That's rather cold comfort for me though, given that the shenanigans that have already happened have me fairly determined not to buy KSP2 unless the IP is sold to a more honest publisher.

From his insurance? Which I would assume any business with some sense of self-preservation would have?

Let me tell you about America...

You have many kinds of insurances around? Like... needing special insurances for each natural catastrophe that could hit you? Insuring your smartphone against impact damage?

I thought this is such a european business, that the big european insurances are also the insurances for the few US insurance companies around...

Not that I'm disagreeing with you here, but who? I mean even Squad was shady at times. Who out there would have the resources to buy it that would be any better?

Happens very rarely here, since a lake is just a kilometer away. Lots of ducks around, but almost never on rooftops, since they find it more convenient at the water. Might also have to do with the airspace around the fields being dominated by crows, buzzards and black kites.

Never seen it round here, no lakes, no ducks! Lots of sea-gulls, sometimes stand on roofs.

Usual bird life, gulls, sparrows, blackbirds, jackdaws, crows. Occasional woodpecker.
Migrating geese, they don't hang around.

What did Fawlty Towers ever do for us?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-53020335

"The BBC is now run by a mixture of marketing people and petty bureaucrats."
He added: "I would have hoped that someone at the BBC would understand that there are two ways of making fun of human behaviour.
"One is to attack it directly. The other is to have someone who is patently a figure of fun, speak up on behalf of that behaviour."

Does somebody know if lightning detectors might get triggered by something anomalous happening to high voltage lines? I just had two weak cloud-to-cloud lightnings on Siemens BLIDS, despite currently having blue sky here. Both at about the same place, both right on top of a large high-voltage line a few km away from here.

Both detected events had been quite a few km away from the next thunderstorm, that makes it very special as well.

Our local friendly supervolcano is more active as previously believed:

https://academic.oup.com/gji/article-abstract/222/2/1316/5835686

Instead of the terrain rising by 0.37 mm per year, as previously believed, it is rising by 1 mm / year. (That is still slow. the Phlegraean Fields near Naples expand at 7 mm/month)

It is a pretty recent discovery, that we have a magma plume about 47 km below Europe, melting up rock below and making it expand. The last eruption is 13000 years ago and the region was considered inactive for many centuries. It is now considered a possibility that a new eruption is possible in the distant future - how distant is left to be researched. Since its discovery about 20 years ago, the magma plume had been available for some surprises, making the Eifel volcanism a pretty interesting field of science.

I'm pretty strict with myself when it comes to "don't drink and code", but apparently the state occasionally leads to strokes of genious that mere sober mortals are incapable of comprehending. Including the person who wrote it, once sobered up:

Why is that so hard to understand? o_O Just thinking about it, there are not many options around for the next result, if you also want to create a maze, that can be traversed. If you do it wrong, you might get ugly looking deadends and the game can't even be played. So, there must be cells that must be "floor" and cells that must be "wall" for it to work, while some other cells "can be floor".

You can even recreate the limitations if you try to draw a maze on a sheet of paper... Hell, it even fits well to board games like "Alhambra" or "Kingdomino".

EDIT: And thinking even harder - how the game was supposed to be played, you only need to calculate the results for the top row, from cell 1 to cell n - 2 (zero-based), the other cells would just get shifted downwards by one row and otherwise kept constant.

Why is that so hard to understand?

As far as I can see, they understand the concept being employed well enough. What they don't seem to get is the logic that lead to that specific lookup table.
