Hello Guys,

I am just doing a general topic to ask questions instead of posting in SSU developement 4.2 to 5 to not interfere too much.

1) So first question about following real shuttle procedure for rendez vous.
I manage to reproduce it quite close, with use of Spec 34 onboard targeting for NCC and there after.

However, do you have a mean to see easily the phase difference between chaser and target?

Currently, I have to modify the orbit to have the same line of apside between the Shuttle and ISS and then look at the difference between True Anomaly.

But do you have a quicker way to look at the angle difference between chaser and target from center of earth?

Gonna help me with phasing and becoming closer to real stuff in term of time schedule.

I have no experience with SPEC 34, but here's my 2 cents.
Onboard, probably not. The GPC software was really tight in memory space, so I'm pretty sure it only shows to the crew what they really need to know.

Yep, I was thinking more to a generic MFD which could display those kinds of info.
I think in real those stuff are available to MCC for phasing ground targeted burn.

2) Another question concerning RMS.
Can we use the real XYZ/PYR and joint angle data of a specific mission to grapple a payload in the bay?

Is there any way to open the camera view in another window or screen?

I apologise for the delay, but I only noticed this post now.

Yes, the RMS joint angles and end effector coordinates are correct.... but, important detail: while the joint angles are always measured the in same way, the referencial from which the EE position is measured can be changed. SSU still doesn't have that feature to change the referencial (I think its called TGT ID or something in the checklists), so only the TGT ID (or whatever) 0 matches the coordinates in SSU. This means you should use the joint angles in the checklists, as those will always match.

And no, currently we don't have camera views.

Thanks for the information, I am gonna work on that. If joint angle match its nice

So the basic referential for EE XYZ position is based on the point where elbow is attached to the shuttle or is based on the center of shuttle body coordinate?

I was wondering if you know where to find the PDRS NASA work book ?

I am working on sts 88, spec 34 is really doing a great job, well done :??

I think the coordinates are in reference to the "standard" shuttle coordinate system, but I have no info on the RMS except what is in the SCOM.

Mmm ok, I was thinking the same.
I am gonna read again PDRS/ RMS part in the SCOM.

It's nice to have simulate Orb Unloaded and Single/Drive.
We can do pretty much every RMS operations, I will try to find the workbook associated to it, maybe on Nasa Space Flight.

I hope Gingin won't get uspet but I also have some questions about SSU operations and I thought I joined this thread to post them instead of starting a new one for aech question/issue.

Question1: during orbit ops (MM202) I have a problem with performing a series of OMS burns. When I start the scenario (let's say for example the STS-114 "POST OMS-2" scenario) I load the targets for the NC1 burn in the ORBIT MNVR EXEC screen and everything goes as planned. Then when I enter the new targets for a second burn (let's say NC2 burn) what happens is that upon loading the targets (ITEM22 EXEC) all the numbers pop up correctly except TGO, which remains zero, therefore the burn won't happen. :(
I had a look at the scenario file and found that deleting the lines in the "OMSBurn Software" section (which were not there when I started the scenario but have been generated and retained with the first burn NC1), restarting the scenario and loading the targets again works fine (TGO appears showing the related burn time) and the burn can be performed. Of course this is just a workaround so I am asking what I am doing wrong here and how can I perform different burns in sequence without editing everytime the scenario.

You must go to MM201 between OMS burns.

Another question: is the APDS system fully functional in SSU 4.2? I could extend the ring, dock with ISS but then the indications on A7L panel were frozen. No INITIAL CONTACT and CAPTURE lights, etc....

We can't simulate the soft docking (for some reason I don't remember now), so the ring is pretty much eye candy.

BTW: I recently "rewired" the panel, so playing with the switches and lights should produce more "realistic results" as far as what lights are on.

No. The the APDS is purely visual at the moment. You can extend/retract the docking ring but that's it. It serves no physical purpose at the moment due to an Orbiter limitation: https://www.orbiter-forum.com/project.php?issueid=1204

Do you mean you made this changes for SSU5.0 so it is normal that the lights don't work as they should in the current release?

Question about the RMS:
How do we move the RMS using the THC/inverse kinematics (what keyboard commands)? Can we use our joystick aswel?
The SSU manual is not very specific about it...

Make sure you are in rotation mode, by pressing the numpad '/' key. Press cntrl+A to select RMS control. Numpad keys control rotation. Cursor keys control translation for Z,Y axis. Delete and insert keys are for X translation axis.

Also you can change the cameras, by pressing cntrl + cursor keys, Alt + cursor keys to pan and tilt.
