Hi all,
I know how to make colors in anim8or.
But what must I do in anim8or to have colors in orbiter that are bright unless the sun is shining on them (mayby in a shadow).
I have seen this on some addons.

Hi,

In the materials box, set a value to the emmisive quality, then in the color bar next to the number dialogue, set the color you want the surface to emit in shadow.

Thank you for your information.

I tried what you said. I turned the emissive value to 1.0. In anim8or it looks great, but in orbiter it is sill dark when I'm in a shadow.
What I'm doing wrong.

Did you set a colour for the emmisive quality? If it is black, you will not emit any light. Also, try not to put the value too high, I use the following qualities in general, as they give a good apearance of light atenuation for things like the inside of cockpits;

Emmisive 0.3 to 0.5,

And don't forget to set the color to a very pale grey, blue or green (or whatever, just so long as it is reasonably pale) by first clicking on the color bar to the right of the emmisive value, then clicking the color you want on the color cube. Use the vertical color shade tune bar to the right of the colour cube to set the exact shade you want. It should work.

Just a thought, if it does't work; Are you making sure the normals (faces) of your model are properly flipped? To see them in Orbiter, make sure you check the following on your anim8or model;

In the tool bar at the left, click the object/point editing mode button, and then click on the face select button. Then click on one of the faces of your model. It should select in yellow on the outer facing faces. If it comes up blue, it will be invisible in orbiter, and you will not see any of its attributes. If this happens, go to the edit menu, down to flip normals and release. It will switch to yellow and will be visible in Orbiter.

Hope it helps....

Hi again,
First thank you for your writing.
I tried everything you explained, but still I have no glowing colours.:(
Could it be possibly be a problem with anom8or under win vista?Or maybe it is a problem that I'm converting from .an8 to.3ds to .msh.

Here is a pic from the material editor:

The 3ds2msh tool isn't perfect--I know it loses some data. I wouldn't be surprised if it's losing the emissiveness too.

Try using .obj instead.

Make sure your path does not contain difficult characters like spaces and therelike.
Other than that, make sure you are really using \ and not /. Can't imagine any other reason why it wouldn't work.

It certainly can if you don't have your permissions sorted out.

Permissions to access directories.
If you use Vista you should know about this and how to check.

After looking at the source of obj2msh it became clear that the path you enter has to be the path to your obj file.

If it is c:\dev\lol.obj, you need to to enter c:\dev\ as the path and then lol as the name.

I don't understand it why I can't get glowing colours in orbiter.
However I think it must be possible to have emissive colours in orbiter, because I saw this in some add ons.
But how?

---------- Post added at 04:26 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:24 PM ----------

I now solved the problem. I opend my mesh file with the editor and saw that the information for the emissive light was not well converted.
It was a problem with to converter.
