I added a new RMS arm.

But I think the scaffold may need to be a separate vessel. The reason is there are 2 docks on the main body. With the scaffold as part of the main body you couldn't use that dock.

As far as attaching to the scaffold. I think I will add several attachment points. And a beacon with it so you know which attachment point is active.

Any ideas?

That would work, much like the truss of the ISS, where different things are parked along the length?
I wish NASA (or the uni) had some better pictures of what the is to look like, that would answer many a question. The beacon idea is pretty good, didn't Marsbase Alpha do that (so the inbound pilot would know which pad to approach)?

Man this is looking good!

So, as you said before, the Reusable Nuclear Stage would not fit on an SLS? Correct, if you used the original Block II cargo style. I whipped up a fast SLS stack with the RNS using universal cargo deck, and it actually launches. Problem is now, does it get to orbit? I had UCD problems before I could get there. Here is a drawing of the general idea.



It is pretty breif and not made to scale, but gets the point across. Would this get to orbit alone, or would it need the SLS Block II Cargo second stage?

Ummm. Scratch that. I tried it last night and it didn't work. Funny, I guess that there was some inconsistency with the fuel levels mabey. Is there a way you can measure the V factor of force for different SRBs? When I made a makeshift SLS, I used the Atlantis SRB configs. Are your SRBs less powerful?

On the skylabII. Got a question. What direction should the rms arm be attaching to a module?

Sorry for the darkness but the white/tellow arrow is the arm. I would thought it would be more like the red arrow. But the URMS attaches the same.

So I guess I need to add an attachment on the the opposite side so it can be attached to the scaffold

First, if the EUS is the Launch Abort System, no. If there was some sort of fairing that could be attached to the engine protruding from the back of the RNS, that would protect it and give it better aerodynamics. Did you test it out? Last time, I guess it did not work for me, even when I took fuel away from the RNS.

The EUS is the 2nd stage. I can add the interstage and EUS and then add the RNS on top of it.

I will make some fairing to cover the engine section.

(To everyone here, check out the Cygnus thread because Antaras just exploded.) John, the last time I tried a scenario that you gave me, the LTV one didn't work, along with a handful of other SLS launches. Mayfly didn't download (I have no clue why) and it did not give me an option to activate the module, so I will try to get the log to you, but if you know other ways that it would be having problems, tell me.

A little depressed that Antares didn't get to orbit. Nonetheless, this might be interesting for the addon.

Todd May, SLS program manager: @NASA_SLS is more like an 86 metric ton rocket (70 metric tons to LEO was goal for first version). #vbsymp.
