Woah, hold up there! Your saying that they will be making it mostly black? Mars missions and moon excursions with a black CM? I thought it was just the EFT-1!

As far as I have read, yes, the BEO version will utilize black tiles while the LEO version will use white tiles.

The reason is that the LEO version will be unable to execute a PTC roll when docked to a space station to evenly spread the heat/cold while the BEO version will be free to execute the PTC roll without hindrance.

Are you getting ready to post that? It would be a great addition. Personally though, I think the white looks much better, and that the black should only be for the EFT-1. It matches the SLS quite well. Anyway, the ATV SM looks great.

There is a cargo Altair to be released soon for orbiter. Yes the athlete would be really cool to see but why not use a RMS to unload

What I meant was the Orion MPCV with the ATV derived SM, but the Athlete is going to be pretty sweet. :thumbup:

I am considering to update my old CEV to become a modern MPCV, but this will be no easy and no short task. The quality of Orbiter addons has improved so much over the past years! To keep up with them I guess I have to re-do the whole addon.
Nowadays decent launchers like the FalconHeavy and the SLS are becoming available. The code needs to be cleaned and updated, new SDK, new Ummu, ...

So, back with the Orion being black, I suppose that is because of heat retainment, right? Well, why does NASA make all of their animations and mockups white? Even the ARM and the Exploration Flight (not to be confused with EFT-1) are wight. Why change now? Training with that is pointless. I understand having it black for the EFT-1, but really, that makes it look, well, worse. It's the same with the SLS: it looks better Saturn V style than the orange of Ares V.

All the mockups were made during the CxP days when Orion hadn't yet been studied for long much less gone through any real design reviews.

Don't ever trust early images or concept animations. They're 100% likely to change as the design matures.

SLS will be colored similar to the cancelled Ares rockets, but they haven't made that clear to the general public either.

Saturn V black and white brings back the epic days of the Apollo moon missions. Why make it orange? (That was rhetorical in a way, I know that paint=weight...)

I did that for the SLS.

I am going to add a RMS Arm to my Altair Cargo. It will need to be sunk in the top so the Athlete platform will not crush it.

I can Animate the Athlete but the math is beyond me. The touchdown points need to move to lower/raise the platform.

Not that I have a lot to add to the discussion. Just wanted to say that its a true pleasure to see you guys work in here. I follow this thread with great interest - and I'm really looking forward to see where this goes. A new module based Altiar lander and with lots of "lunar Gizmos" (for lack of better word). And I'm really impressed with what you can accomplish - Gattispilot.

I can't get the 2 fairings to seperate without a CTD. I know the cfg and mesh are good as I can put them in another scenario and no issues.

Altair design looking great, but just one thing. The SSRMS arm is supposed to be used in orbit, but can one actually be used to take cargo like that off of Altair in real life? For the Skylab, I think I was having a similar problem, because my fairings wouldn't come off before Orion. I am not sure exactly how to fix it.

I was having problems with your SLS Second stage fairing thing, but before I couldn't get the fairings to detach themselves.
