Wow thanks. I forgot about the Habitat. Really for the Habitat it could be put in a UCGO.

But you can't fit the housing part of the LER in the Lander

Couldn't find out how the rover would get up.

Doable. One issue is I think you could make the base as a UCGO. But once inflated. one couldn't just pack it back up.

Let me try to get a ALtair cargo version going.

---------- Post added at 08:26 AM ---------- Previous post was at 05:06 AM ----------

I saw this:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Altair_%28spacecraft%29#mediaviewer/File:Altair_-_cargo_mode.jpg

Then on top you could make it UCGO and add cargo to the upper deck?

Or put the ler like this config;

I think I am going to try to make that cargo version. Not sure what specs to use though.

LER had two components, the mobile ATHLETE section and the Habitation Module. The ATHLETE section was designed to haul around any compatible cargo, not just the Habitation Module.

I guess I will have to make that. But this look different than the other LER's. Wow that vessel can do all sorts of things. Grabs/drills on the wheels.

Wonder Why no has made one. I think it might be an animation nightmare. How is it controlled?

---------- Post added at 05:28 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:39 PM ----------

ok kinda off topic in Anim8or To make the Altair cargo. I made a hex 7.5 diameter. BUt to rotate it. it seems to be in units of .2 so I can rotate 22.5 either 22.4 or 22.6 anyone know how to change it

SKYLAB2SLS2_zpsfa094a32.jpg

But I am not sure what to do with that scaffold part. I have a mesh that is folded up. it has a key that the user presses and the mesh disappears and a scaffold vessel is created. The skylab2 can attach to it. I might throw a flexcraft on top of the dock.

For some reason I get a CTD when the Fairings get released. I have a cfg and mesh in the correct locations.

---------- Post added 11-05-14 at 05:16 PM ---------- Previous post was 11-04-14 at 09:19 PM ----------

Here is the scenario. I know the fairing cfg and mesh are good as I can use them in another scenario. I get a CTD with it is time for the fairings to come off:

Great job with the Skylab II. I would say definitely include the ATHLETE. It would work for multiple cases (Moon, Mars, Phobos, Ect.) Anyway, with that BM-Lander, I have had problems with RCS and weight. It runs out of fuel extremely fast when carrying a station module down to the surface of Mars. If you used that lander, and put the ATHLETE on it, then it could be landed on the martian surface quite easily, that is if the propellant worked better . . .

Like these:

LER CHARIOT folded
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/71242599/altairler4.jpg

The LER wouldn't fit it the cargo area. the main nozzle hit it. So we tried attaching to the ramp
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/71242599/altairler6.jpg

So, would it require assembly in space, or on the ground? It might be too hard to assemble LER2 on the surface because of the heavy white living module (it would have to be hoisted on top).

Thanks. Still haven't got the scenario to work to get the skylab up. I get one fairing and the interstage to separate when both fairing should come off.

Making the Athlete I would think it not be hard but coding it is another thing.

I guess it would move like the LER where all 6 wheels move together. But moving the attachment point might be hard. As the legs might be lower on one corner.

Might need to have a separate thread.

But it looks like each leg can be controlled separately. It that image it looks like the wheel are all turned so it would go in a circle.

So if for movement goes the 6 wheels rotate the same. But to be simple. The base could just lower evenly. How would the module get on top?

Wow, I forgot all about Athlete! It every bit as nimble as the LER, actually more so, it's freaking cool to watch.

It starts out on top of Altair, then spider walks off the lander and rolls over to where ever it needs to go. Somewhere on them internets there is a really cool time-lapse of it doing this (during one of the RATS competitions maybe?). I'll see if I can find it.

What I don't know is if it stays under the module permanently, if so, shouldn't the legs be mechanically locked in place somehow to prevent EVER shifting. Over my years of maintenance, I can guarantee you, that anything mechanical can fail (often at any time and usually when you need it most) So says Demon Murphy...

edit---

hehehe

And another one, not so campy. And it answered my question earlier.

OK. But I think just a 6 leg version would be good. I think tiring to control it might be a challenge.
