Favorite Space Movie?

Apollo 13 (what a surprise...)
2010 (I haven't seen 2001 yet :()
Contact (not a surprise either)
Lost in Space
Outpost 2 (this isn't a movie, it's a game, but it's kind of cinematographical. More info here and here)

I really loved 2001/10
But a few months ago I saw a movie called Sunshine that was tops in my book.
It was only released majorly in the Uk, I think, and in small theatres here in the US.

It takes place many years in the future, when the Sun is starting to die out. A handful of astronauts were sent on the Icarus 1, a large scale vessel with a payload of a massive nuclear weapon in order to restart the sun's core. Unfortunately, we lost contact with Icarus 1 and have no idea of it status. So, being humans, we try again, and the movie follows the venture of Icarus 2, an identical craft, in there mission to try again, and if possible locate Icarus 1.

Its got some pretty classic deep space dilemmas in it - you know, that point where your O2 supply won't be enough to make it back home, so somebody's gotta go. And of course, sentient computers! Okay, not really. ;-)

I forgot about 2001 and 2010. They are good movies, and I also read 2061 and 3001 along with a few other of his books. Of course, Apollo 13 was good as well, like he said above.

Since this has been necroposted, my favorite movie of all time (and space) is Moon.

I greatly enjoyed Sunshine as well. That nuke seemed pretty puny to kickstart the Sun, but aside from that I thought it was really well-done. It was unpredictable and humorless, as I think any good end-of-the-world movie should be.

I thought it was a pretty good movie too. The suitless EVA attempt was pretty win.

Actually, the nuke didn't have to kickstart the Sun. It was meant to remove a Q-Ball within it, but it wasn't mentioned through the movie. Check the commentary tracks.

Ohh, woulda been nice if they'd put that in the movie. I have NO idea what a Q-Ball is though

For me... (maybe because I've been watching them again recently), but easily my favorite:

I've always liked Return of the Jedi the most.

And I'm an Empire Strikes Back fan... but only because everyone has it wrong when they label the Empire as the bad guys.

Hello, I think that the best film I have seen about space is Alien I and Alien II. Perhaps this movies have not a temathic about space exploration but I think that the Nostromo, Narcisus an Sulaco spaceships are the best spaceships that I could to imagine.I think the same thing about Ellen Ripley ( Sigourney Weaver ),jeje.

I saw "Moon" last weekend on DVD, while perhaps not a favorite, I thought it was very good. My wife even watched the whole thing (that's saying a lot, really).
Favorite would be Apollo 13, Serenity ("explode? I don't wanna explode"), and Star Trek II "Khaaaaaaannnn!!!"

Wrath of Khan is by far my favorite of all the Star Trek movies.

Hopefully you will appreciate this "special deleted scene" (Rickroll warning). I hate getting rick-rolled, but I thought this was hilariously done.
