ISV Venture Star development
I don’t like the movie) but, at the same time, I think that the ship will be good at Orbiter.

done: mesh
to do: textures, animations of moving parts, maybe sail(maybe…), VC… etc.

Dang, didn't work...
Anyways, looks awesome! I will SO download that! For the shuttles, you could use XR5s.:)

Damn, nice mesh. :tiphat:

Is this going to be a SC3 file or have a proper DLL?

What kind of specs are we looking at as far as Mass, DV, etc?

I had drawn up specs a ISV Venture Star-esque Interplanetary vessel but it never got beyond the pen and paper stage as far as the modeling was concerned.

Marvellous! this is really a nice call :)
And by the way I also liked the movie... ehehehe...

Is anyone working on the Valkyrie shuttles that were attached to it?

Very nice!

Any plans on system functionality (beyond animations) ?

IIRC Liber had something going on the Valkyrie...

I think that at least UMMU would be nice. And until the Valkyrie is ready, you can use XR5s.

For now it’s using a SC3. But many things are not realizable in SC3....

We’ll see later... it depends on my spare time

About specs, addon in the early WIP stages and specs are very "draft"...

I'm currently working on textures, then the specs will be (I'll post my suggestions here)

for system functionality - at least different payloads(something like «scientific module» or « manufacturing module»), RMS... to place it in XR5 and deliver on the planet...

UMMU would be nice... we'll see later...

And until the Valkyrie is ready, you can use XR5s.

I plan to use XR5(with new skin) for now. it’s more functional.

Looks awesome, I can not wait to travel with this ship!
I would like to make aerobraking at Jupiter with the shield.

That looks more like a radiator or PVA than an aerobraking shield.

That mesh is amazing! Good luck UV mapping and texturing it.

It's a shield to protect the structure of the ship from the laser which is used as beamed propulsion for Earth departure, and doubles as a whipple shield during the cruise phase. (I guess this won't be simulated, though. It's not possible without some coding.)

It has only one rear shield and no shields on the grav pods.
The author has it right:

There's a really detailed analysis of the Venture Star at Atomic Rockets, IIRC.
EDIT: Here it is. It's a few frames down.

Well those antimatter braking rockets should still have plenty of DV for getting around the solar system.

I'd be cool with it if that was the only means of propulsion. Interplanetary delta-v requirements are nothing compared to interstellar.

Though I guess you could cheat a bit with the laser sail simulation, and just have invisible thrusters with an effect that makes the sail glow or something to simulate the laser hitting it.

Wow wow wow, That's a pretty model, I hope my computer will be able to run it.

But one remark : I think you should differ from the Avatar's model and increase its length.
Not to say Cameron missed the detail (he was maybe bound by artistic reason) but the entire point of Pellegrino's design seen here was to have the crew far away from the source of radiation without increasing the mass too much.

And I think Avatar's model is too short.

My biggest curiosity is how the sail is deployed, someone saw a drawing on the web? and
a cannon located on earth or on the moon directs its beam to sail?

Sail is 16 km in diameter deployed, made out of essentially carbon nanotubes with an ultrapure mirror coating. It has hinges built into it that allow it to fold up after the laser boost is completed, which takes 5.5 months at 1.5G. final velocity is about .7C.

Always wondered just how they got 1.5G out of a laser beam. Solar powered by a Dyson sphere constructed from disassembled planets and moons?
